Indeed, it's not a service item, I've never changed mine.

I always re-use the bolt if it's not damaged and the threads are clean. It's not a requirement to replace it

Audi Tradition do the bolt, Ebayde the washer and terrybullone (here) the pulley.

(I can't find the bolt on AT at the moment. Eyes getting fuzzy. If they haven't got it anymore, I have a Febi one that I bought before I got one from AT

The timing belt isn’t too bad to do, there is a guide on the forum too https://www.s2forum.com/articles/199...-renewal-guide make sure you change the bottom pulley. For either oe or one of the billet ones.

also make sure you get the £30 coated washer and new stretch bolt.

on timing you need to set the timing 1/2 tooth to the left as you look at it.

3/4” kit is essential as it needs a lot of torque to do up properly. I had to jump up and down on the breaker bar to undo mine the last time

    Hardly attacking you, is it?

If you recommend something can scrap someone's engine, then I think it is our duty to challenge the idea, don't you?

I'm all for doing things in unconventional manners as long as not detrimental.

But a rattle gun, on these engines, is bad news, very bad news.

I only suggested using the air gun to open the bottom pulley there seems to be a lot of aggression to anyone who suggests something that’s not by the book on this forum. Einstein I’m sure never done any timing belts if you don’t like what some (suggests ) why attack them for it

Probably use an air gun to undo but only if you are going to replace the bottom crank pulley and then install and torque as per manual
