Radiator in the boot on a roadgoing S2?

On Rallycoss cars it is a very populair mod to place (a bigger?) radiator in the boot. As it helps clearance, weight balance and protection of the rad. Also it seems that the missing frontal area and the missing heat radiation helps to keep under bonnet temps low. And the engine more accesible!

Nowadays you see this happening on road or semi trackcars too! Just take a look a Gatebil or Stian Hafsengen's Ford for example... So has anyone tried this mod on his Audi?

It's been done before a couple of times. It's a pain in the neck to build the setup. Jamil (volcanors)has some experiences with this on his SQ replica. Bleeding the system is very hard. I've considered it aswell, but the advatages don't weigh up to all the hassle.

The S2 has a very effecient cooling IMHO. I've never had high water temps at all. Just hot oil.... even with a XXL oil cooler. Search the forum, there are some pics posted with rear rads not so long ago.

Look at the thread for Wabthekings V8 conversion in his CQ, he is putting the Rad in the boot and has some pics and nice ideas.

I think the main reason for people doing this, is to make room for the bigger intercooler (without blocking all the air under the bonnet) and to sort the weight balance a bit...

But it seems to be a lot of work and need some proper thinking regarding waterpumps i guess. And you will need solutions to get the air in and out the boot...

On the Audi is a unique situation regarding their 2 radiators...
