    Hesitating/Performance Loss

My S2 is playing up a little bit at the moment and it's starting to annoy me... I've searched through lots of posts but I can't quite work out of the symptoms are the same as everyone else.

It seems to 'bog down' when I apply the throttle, though not all the time. When I'm driving at a constant 30mph in 4th, a very light application of throttle makes the car actually slow down slightly, then pick up again a few seconds later. This also happens sometimes when I'm driving it a bit harder.

Yesterday I'd pulled out of a junction and was at about 1500 rpm in 1st. I put my foot to the floor and it accelerated, but not very hard. When it hit about 4000 rpm it was almost like someone had flicked a switch and it suddenly picked up.

I fitted a boost gauge to see what's going on, and the boost seems relatively consistent. In 2nd, 3rd and 4th it boosts to 16-18 psi ish (1.1 - 1.2 bar). In 1st, 5th and 6th I've usually got more important things to look at than the gauge.

I've cleaned the MAF (thanks to Vonbeck for the MAF BAF idea) and that seemed to make little or no difference. I don't think the previous owner did the Mark H mod, so that's next on the list.

I know the usual things that go wrong are the WGFV, the DV and the IC O ring, but would these have an effect when it's off boost?

    Where should I start looking?

Forgot to say, I'm told it's had an MTM ECU upgrade. Are these boost levels consistent with this?

      pressure test the system.
Theres a kit available that enables you to just plug it into a garage forecourt air machine and you can then listen or see any air leaks.
Your symptoms sound very similiar to mine and I had an air leak where the intercooler o ring is amongst other places...

You can buy the required section of samco from www.merlinmotorsport.com

You need a 60-70mm Reducer (straight) This is the part you need for the mod.

I think it was £20 all in including delivery and I ordered at 2pm one Thursday and it came by midday friday (with some other bits I ordered!!)

TOP SERVICE// TOP PLACE .... Cant recommend them highly enough.
