    Fuel Filter Change

I have just bought a new fuel filter, and plan to change it tonight.

I dont even know where the filter is located on a '93 ABY coupe!?! had a look at the Audi service manual (for a 3b) and it shows the filter located behind the airbox.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Is there a guide to changing it, or is it straight forward?

    Cheers!

Its underneath the floor at the rear... There is a plastic or metal cover which hides it from view... Just follow the fuel lines and you'll find it.

Not a hard job but just the normal PITA with rusted up clips etc. Be prepared for some fuel spillage and note the orientation of the filter - it has an arrow on it !

Does anyone with an ABY or LHD 3b have photos of the filter location ? I'm planning on installing the ABY battery box in my 20v Coupe Quattro and the filter is currently where the battery box needs to go.

      Much appreciated!

            Jamo:

I did a cursory search and only found some pictures of the filter for an avant...and plenty of fuel pump pictures....

It will have to wait till tommorrow now. Camera bats were all flat. GSF have given me the wrong filter anyhow. I guess its the avant one as its a bit smaller in dia and length.

                  Found it Jamo......

It does have some pics, let me know if you need anymore. Should be doing it tonight now.

One thing that worries me. When I undo the filter will just the fuel in the filter drain out, or will I start draining the tank?

You shouldn't drain the tank, unless you turn the fuel pump on. It is surprising how much fuel is in the filter, so have a container handy.

and make sure you have new and correctly sized copper washers for the new filter!
I had a major PITA stopping fuel leaks after the crappy motor factors supplied me some incorrect random copper sealing washers.

It was spraying out with the ones they supplied on!!
go OEM is my advice for this part

Yeah, the one I got from GSF was a Mann filter, which I believe is an OEM supplier.

Failing those washers, I have a good supply at home. I always pick them up at auto-jumbles etc....

It was £9.99 inc VAT from GSF.

They have two numbers listed for the ABY. I cant rember what the number was, but the one for the coupe was the B version, and the straight for the avant (avant one is smaller)
