    Rotor arm!!!

Any hints to getting the flaming thing off it seems to be welded on and I don't want to give it to big a tug for fear of knackering the dizzy.

Also why would the tip of the rotor arm be bent?? (the bit that makes contact is bent up on the leading edge)

    New ones me thinks.

    Also Spark plugs.......

Which are the best for the car.. The plugs seem very wet (petrol not water) and are a tad old now so a new set are needed.

Cheers Guys. REally motoring now to get it back on the road!!

The rotor arm is glued on, so you have to smash it off.

When removing the old rotor arm do not apply any side loads to the distributor shaft.
Grab the rotor arm with a pair of pliers and crush the plastic until the distributor shaft can be seen. Do not twist the pliers as yor are crushing the old rotor. Clean the shaft of any bits of the old rotor and the glue used to hold it on. Keep the inner parts of the distributor clear of broken bits as you are working.

Then glue the new rotor on with some special locktite compound iirc...high Temp rating at the very least to protect it from the ambient heat around there

Why glue it back on???? a new rotor arm is a damn tight fit anyway.

Sorry to tag onto this but...has anyone tried to use a puller under the rotor arm rather than crushing it?

How would one use a puller without drilling a hole in the rotor arm? That could work fine but there would be a load of dust falling into dissy while drilling the hole? Unless you mean a slide hammer type puller which I'd avoid due to amount of force required to do the job damaging the dissy, it could well work but not a gamble I'd like to take.

They very rarely need to be replaced, how many miles has yours covered?

Its done around 60K miles. I ended up carefully applying a Mole wrench and lightly tapping the side of the wrench with a hammer in a parallel direction with the shaft, after a few taps, the rotor arm cracked and came off, all the shards went away from the dist body and I vacuumed the area

The shaft is clean and as you say there is a key in there that seems to be a tight fit inside the new RA; I trust it just needs some determined force to push the new one on? I can honestly say I have never known an engine which is such a palaver; all these years of working on distributors and removing arms/cleaning points have been straightforward compared to this.
