    My RS2 on the dyno...delusion?

    Hi everybody from Italy
I took my RS2 to Supersprint factory in Mantova Italy few days ago the reason is my exaust system (original) was weared by time and Kms so i decide to move into the Supersprint center and terminal instead of the original one also because in here every one is saying Supersprint was ok.
    Pros:
Sound is alright nice (no good for my wife thoug) and deep suits perfectly the character of the car.
Power i did have more power out of my engine let say 6 bhp more then before...

    Negative side:
First of all nothing to do with Supersprint nice guys nice company the owner himself did the dynos sessions on my baby.......before and after.....for a total of four all togheter fitting has been done on the premises (all included in the price!)

The reading on the dyno was the big surprise!

Before Supersprint stock exaust 296 bhp Torque 449Nm at 4000 rpm
After with Supersprint 302 bhp Torque 446 at 3800 rpm

Dyno brand is MAHA a couple of big fans for cooling the intercooler and also water has been sprayed directly on the IC whilst the session was made...

Mods on my ADU motor are different opening/timing on the cams to reduce turbo lag
comparised with others RS2 in our club in Italy everyone agrees that my turbo comes alive 300/400 revs before the stock sisters.....
Motor has been trough a major rebuild 30000 km ago everything brand new from pistons rods valves head bearings etc etc
Eproms fitted in december 2006 made by a german tuner MB cartuning Ravensburg with a very good reputation on ours five cylinders motors (eproms should have raised power between 340/360 bhp)
I say the car on the foot was much better a lot better smoother powerful faster then with the originals ones in few words i love it!

So anyone can help me with an answer?

why not even the declared power??
Why Torque is higer then the 410 mn stock value but power is so much less

i will post Dyno diagrams asap

    Thanks Stefano

RS2 should not make maximum power around 4000rpm, but I would expect max torque around that rpm value.

Can you post the graph ? What happens at 5000 - 7000rpm ?

Maybe your cam timing mods prevent maximum power around 6000rpm ?

Sounds like you've retarded the cam timing and this is reducing flow / power at the top end but reinforcing the mid-range and so has increased the torque over a standard RS2. You don't get something for nothing! Why not have the timing set correctly and fit a standard S2 inlet cam and have it custom re-mapped if you want more mid range?

I would have thought that the cam timing change would also mean that the ECU remap that you've had done (generic?) would be for the standard cam timing and so is not suited to your setup, thus causing your car to run worse than a custom remap on the re-timed cam would allow.

        Thanks folks!

Yes my deduction was pretty the same......
you don't get something for nothing.........yes that's true!
Cam timing was modified because i was missing the low revs torque of my ex S2 3b...
i didn't like it the dead revs below 3000rpm of the RS2 and on the other side the kick that comes after that point.........
I live in a valley i love driving on snow and that setup is probably the best compromise allaround but i'm saying "probably"
Timing of the cams has been made by a motorist in a Ferrari Garage the guy is a top man and the garage is also a top place for Ferrari Challenge Championship and race car tuning probaly one of the best places in Veneto area
I must say that i was happy with the cams setup the minute after i drove the car around the time it was done (1998)
Never had any problem chasing others RS2 either.............
i will post anyway tomorrow the graphs because i always believed this is the best place where to have a opinion/advice i've been writing very little but i love to read your knowledge!
By the way excuse my english and thankyou very much guys

              Hi everybody!
Here is the graph of the dyno.......(hope something will be there... i'm jacks**t with computers )

Somebody can tell me how i can upload more jpg files because i do have the step by step values every 100 revs don't now if is useful.......otherwise i'm going to put several messages.......yes yes i know i'm dumb

Thanks in advance to everyone that will reply with any comment

Whats your boost curve like after 4000rpm?
Looks lke it falls flat on its face judging by your torque curve as torque will be related to boost pressure.
Also youve got massive transmission losses according to that data

Yes i'm wondering about that too......
gauge and check of turbo pressure asap

But should'nt be that as in my S2 3b any boost leak should put the car in recovery by the ECU? (means big power cuts when you flat your foot)

I remember a nightmare with a little crack on the pipe coming up from the intercooler on my ex S2..... it drove me litterally mad until i found it!

I would rather say rubber seal on the wastegate could determined a lower pressure or not meeting the full pressure by the turbo......

What do you folks think about it?

                      Thanks so far!

I think due to Pirelli Sottozero winter tyres

Somethings definately not right and id bet your boost curve replicates your torque curve.
Id say its more than a boost leak - for some reason your not holding boost at high rpms be it a weak wastegate, poor ecu boost control, knock etc.....

                        Pete.

Advancing the cams give the result your describing, not retarting. Retarding gives more top end, and the RS2 cams are about 10 degrees retarded compared with S2 timing.

I think the ECU Chips you are using are causing this problem to you. These Chips are Generic Audi RS2 Stock setup chips. In order to take the most out of your timing is to make a custom remap.

Why does he get 175 PS at the Wheels and has 127 PS loses? Are the loses on the RS2 so hi?

Now that I see the graph I also think there is a massive boost leak - even with stock chips the boost profile would not look like that... It is very weird boost curve - is this controlled by ECU or some other device ?
