Just to confirm this how I did the count.
I took the cam pulley back off after I lined it up and the marks looked good at the front of the cams.
Will be checking again when I get home
The way you have done it seems ok to me, and I count 10, eg 10 places that a tooth could go into the chain. I need to confirm mine. I think mine is also 10.
my friendly mechanic who is doing some work on my RS2 is concerned by how tight the new cam chain is when fitted, this is the one we ordered https://www.autodoc.co.uk/swag/2143720
So, from the conversation above, how tight is too tight? Message I'm getting is no slack top nor bottom and he's concerned.
Any advice gratefully received.
Paul

Blue up the cam journals and turn the engine over and see where the witness marks are. If it’s pulling the cams together you will be able to see.
I would not trust any of that unbranded crap on AUTODOC though.
Re Autodoc, have found them great to deal with and they do seem to check my baskets for compatability before despatch so good service. The chain I bought is branded SWAG which is a Bilstein company so comfortable with the choice, especially with the prices Audi charge for the same parts.

You have been lucky with Autodoc. Lots here including myself have had horrendous service

75% of the parts they supply are plain wrong or worse - counterfeit Then getting your money back takes weeks or months. 10 weeks is my record. Are during that they tried to tell me to cancel my paypal dispute or they would not proceed with a returns process. Obviously they don't know the law - good thing PayPal does.
They carry ZERO stock - when it says "In Stock" what that means is "Maybe we can get it drop-shipped to you, but if we can't we will send you some unbranded China ***** instead and try to charge you the same amount."
Awful, awful company staffed by utter morons who have ZERO clue about the products they are selling. There aren't many businesses which I go out of my way to slag off, but this is one of them. Sure they are cheap, but they are also greedy, lying d1ck suckers with utter contempt for their customers. Do yourself a favour and buy from an independent not these pricks
