    Need HELP!!

    OK

My car OIL TEMP light keeps flashing at me. I was on th A! when it started to flash. I have topped up the coolant, but the light still flashes in the AUTOCHECK thing. The car temp was half way between 50 and 90 when it started to flash. Any ideas?

PS, when I topped it up and took it out for alittle spin (light was flashing all this time, car had been parked for 4 hours up untill that time) after i parked up I took a look at the coolant resoivoir and the were air bubbles escaping from the feed pipe into the radiator (??).

Would it be ok to drive home tonight?

    Any help appreciated. Thanx Guys

I'm getting similar with the Autocheck telling me that the coolant is either too low or it is too hot. I got it this morning driving to work. It was 7:45am - nice and cool and the temp guage was showing approx 80°.

I'm begining to think something has fried in the recent heat wave. I've previously seen the temp guage reading well over 90° - probably 115° - and the Autocheck never grumbled before. All my coolant levels seem to be OK.

I've definately got a major cooling problem now.
Parked up at work this morning and got out of the car, to be greeted by plumes of steam coming out through the front grill. Lifted the bonnet and the coolant tank is half empty!
I've got a leak somewhere. Just what I need!

At least its going in to the dealers next week to get the AC fixed, so I'll get them to fix the leak at the same time. In the mean time, I'll just keep a keen eye on coolant levels and keep it topped up.

Will I do it any harm if I simply top it up with tap water until next week?

          Hi Sidspud

Must be the time of year for coolant problems. A few weeks ago I checked the coolant level on my RS2 and was horrified to find it was below the minimum. We topped it up with water temporarily - checking how much , and on mechanic's advice ran it for a couple of days checking how much fluid needed to be put in to top it up.

Stupid expansion chamber makes it difficult to check volume so we used a bit of stick and a pencil to mark levels!

Cause of leaks two fold - a leak in the radiator and one of the hoses at the front. Took it away fixed and a week later another leak appeared - this time round the exhaust manifold. All leaks now fixed and normal service resumed.

            Sorry to hear that

I drove mine after work, it was flashing for like 3 mins or so and then just stopped. Hasnt been back since, been 2 days. Fingers crossed nothing else happens.:wacked:

              Ok,

Seems like I have a leak as well. The car whilst parked over night has left a nice little patch of coolant on the street. Its much (about 5 inch diameter) The rim of the coolant reservoir has coolant on it. Seems to be leaking from the hose at the top which feeds into the radiator/fan area. Hopefully its just the pipe that messed up.

I had a similar problem a while ago and i thought it was the pipe which goes from the top of the radiator to the inlet manifold with a 'T' piece going to the after run pump. This hose was 86 quid from Audi but after a strip down to properly inspect it turned out to be the actual pump, where the shaft goes from the motor into the pump the gland seal had failed--120 quid for an OEM original
