Draining Tappets

Just looking for some advice on what is the best way to drain the tappets on the AAN engine. Thanks.

With the lifters out of the motor?

Yes.

You can dismantle the lifters to clean the valve section on the underside. It's easy to flush them once this is removed. You can dismantle the hydraulic components to clean them. It's a bit fiddly, but not too bad. To remove the hydraulic shim, repeatedly tap the lifter on a block of softwood. The valve section will drop out. A few short, sharp shocks should do it. Dont forget to fill them before putting them back in! They will be noisy at first until they have pressurised.
