    Re - misfire

My S2 is currently running a set of highoutput coils which i got from Corey (cant remeber where they came from though - it was in America somewhere) after fitting them and new plugs the car ran like a dream for 6 months but now the dreaded misfire is back.

As the kit apparently does away with the POS's and comprises a full set of new coils and leads i do not know what else can be causing the misfire.

I had a diagnostic check done by a local audi specialist. this showed a problem with the cars engine speed sensor. this was swapped for another speed sensor but the diagnostics came back with the same fault. i am stumped. can anyone help?

    Ta

Engine speed sensor comes up on Vag-Com when the engine is off.
I get it every time with vag com for the very reason.
Sounds like they may have charged you for some thing you may have not needed?

Had the same thing on my S6 i ended up replacing both sensors on the gearbox and the 02 sensor to cure, i am also running the 1.8t coil packs and think they are great, it could be a coil pack failure are running the metal cover?? if so then take it off

The code is pretty normal if the test is done when the engine is not running.

so the engine speed sensor is a red herring eh?

do i take it that it is best to do the diagnostic test when the engine is running?

my coils are mounted on the inner wing where the air box used to be as they are way too big to fit under the rocker cover. i therefore hope that they are not getting too warm.

with regard to the 2 gear box sensors is that the engine speed sensor and the TDC sensor. how much do they cost to buy and also how much was the O2 sensor?

                Re - misfire

so i would need an O2 sensor, TDC sensor and an engine speed sensor and you say about £180 the lot?

did you buy these from Audi? do you happen to have the part numbers?

Just seen this, Lee ignore the PM as I (wrongly) assumed it was the 1.8T kit we sold you. I remember now it was the HO version.
Is the miss there at idle? if so take a plug off each injector one at a time (with the engine running) and note which cylinder doesn't change.
Once you have identified which, swap the coils around and then see if the miss is still on the same cylinder.

                    Thanks for the advice Corey.

It sounds like i might have to wait for the problem to get worse as it misfired at idle yesterday and yet today there was no problem. i hate the intermittent faults.

have you ever had one of these coils break yet as i am thinking that given the fact they are over engineered and running on a 230bhp motor there would be little scope for one to fail.

what are your thoughts (if any) on O2 sensor, TDC sensor and an engine speed sensor being the culp**** causing the misfire?

                    Thanks

                    Lee.

The HO coils fail, never known one die yet.
