I'm about to replace my valve stem seals due to recent smoking issues. I've been trying to research whether or not to replace the hydraulic lifters while at it. What I have found is that the lifters and cam wear together, meaning I have to put every lifter back to where they came out, if I decide to reuse the old ones. Some people even wrote that if the lifters are replaced the cams should be replaced as well
I can't believe that is true.
Is it recommended to change all the lifters once the cams are out? I've had no problems with them but I have no idea how old they are. If I do change them, do I need to soak them in oil, or do something else, before fitting them?

What are your thoughts on soaking the lifters in oil before fitting? What I have read on other forums it seems like some people recommend it and some people don't. The bentley manual doesn't say anything about it, other than not to start the before 30 mins has passed after fitting the lifters.
