    Slugish

    Hi all,
I was wondering if any of you had any thoughts on this??

I have just managed to get my 3b started after many months of work upgrading to an 034 RS2 spec turbo and injectors ( and a wee bit of head work ) It runs ok apart from the first bit of the throttle travel, when i pull away it seems like the engine is starved or something.

I am just taking it easy as it obviously needs a remap for it to run right, but wanted to get a few miles on it to make sure there is nothing untoward wrong with it.

Should i expect this from the car??

Sorry if this is a stupid question but im just learning

    Thanks

    Si

Have you connected the throttle position switch?
Is the throttle position switch set so it just clicks as it close's.
All hoses in place and secure?

Yeah mate all the bits are fitted.

My guess is its fueling wrong due to bigger injectors and standard map, is that right?

The fuelling will be messed up if you are still on the stock map and running bigger injectors. The engine will be running too rich.
Put the stock injectors back on and save them for when it's mapped.

I changed the injectors and set up the throttle switch and it made no difference, infact i think its a bit worse.

Is there anything else i can try?

                      Old Fuel?

Um, just a shot in the dark. How old is the fuel in the car? If it has been several months since the car has been run, it may be that the old fuel needs to be drained out or "run out". We have seen that alot on long-term project cars.
What about cam timing and distributor timing?

                        Good suggestion on fuel...

Did you reset the ECU after swapping back to 3B injectors ?
If you didn't then it will still be struggling with data it learnt from trying to use the RS2 ones - they would have been very rich.

If there are no faults on the car, you should be just fine cruising around on 3B injectors and software on that turbo while you wait for a remap... But I would definitely avoid any use of full throttle... Maybe not a bad idea to disconnect the WGFV connector so as to avoid temptation

Thanks for all the advice. I cleaned the maf wires when i put the car back together but i didnt reset the ecu after the injector change ( i will do that now )

The petrol thing sprung to my mind last night and i 3cleared it all out and put fresh in it this morning, i also cleaned out the throttle body and the idle valve.

It now seems to run much better and alot smoother when i pull away but the tick over is around 1500rpm?

I have had a gud look at all the small bore pipes and they all seem to be fine ( a bit old but on splits in them or anything like that )

The other thing it has started to do is surge a little bit when i am just going along at a steady speed.Im guessing it will do this untill i get it mapped properly for the work i have done to it?

It hasnt thrown any fault codes out at all? And the cams where put back exactly as they where.

has the cam belt slipped a notch due to
                              the turbo surging

check the alignment an see if that helps
