    AAN bottom end internals

What power can these bottom ends take before steel rods, ARP bolts etc are needed?

    BHP and Nm

This has been discussed many a time. I wouldn't run any more than 600Nm and 500bhp on stock rods.

Lot of repeated questions recently which just require a quick search.

600nm is too much IMO 500-550 is the safe limit 600nm is right on the edge for stock rods.

Some like to add a safety factor, as Jamo says.
But if you enjoy life on the edge.....:mischeif: Although one nasty boost spike and .

Conds: 400-430HP and no more than 6500-7000 rpms
The rpms also kills the rod bolts.

Pistons: 650hp, wouldn't go much higher than that though. A friend got 671 bhp with stock pistons and piston bolts. Verdi Rods (of course ). But that car hasn't seen the track yet so I'm not sure about its durability. We'll see

Some questions are quick and easy to answer. Searches can take ages to read. Thanks for the quick replies

The Bottom ends are strong then good

New to the Audi World so just trying to get as much info as possible.

The MTM RS2/RSR ran 428bhp, and Søren ran 450bhp for over 20k miles, both on stock rods, so the limit isn't there.
Who knows what the stock rods could do with decent bolts.

BHP isn't strictly the limiting factor, it's the torque level generated that can bend the rods.

Torque will bend them, but bhp/rpm will attemp to let them escape.

Many people have destroyed rods with rs2 turbo (approx 350 hp), so the full story is difficult to tell. With bad tuning you can destroy rods on stock turbo, if you get into the 400 hp + area you are definately closing in on the limits. Good software is a must. Problem is often that you might have boost spikes or similar that might bring the rods down even if you think you are at a safe level of tuning. By adding good rods you increase the chanse of engine surviving if other parts shuld fail.

And an escaping rod at 7,500rpm wouldn't be a pretty sight

                          Chicken and egg scenario

In reality you going to get to the torque threshold for the rods before hitting the bhp/rpm limit via boost spikes or running at high boost levels.

How many cars here actually go beyond the Audi rpm limit in reality and hit 600 bhp on stock internals?

Edit: This is a mute point as the stock pistons would probably melt around 500 bhp

                            1: Not many

2: No they wouldn't. Stock pistons are quite good.

BUT: if building a 400+ hp engine don't try and do it as cheap as possible. If you can't afford a full rebuild with new pistons and rods then save money for a couple of months more and do it right the first time. You'll sleep better and in the end it won't be more expensive because after a while you'll want more power again and have to rebuild anyway

Stock pistons have been pushed beyond 700bhp but you would need to reduce their CR.
You have to pay to play, performance doesn't come cheap. Do it right do it once
