Warning: Silicone Contamination of Oxygen Sensors and Catalysts...

This subject, which is actually very old news, really deserves to be more widely known. Question for the Mod folks here - rather than bury it in some more obscure thread, perhaps this could be made a sticky at the front of E & T?.

Here are links towards long ago published Society of Automotive Engineer's papers which also gave birth to the requirement for after-market sensor-safe sealants to be used throughout all (and perhaps even near to) engine systems to prevent this issue. In my view even downstream of the sensors in the exhaust system of turbo'd engines, pressure wave activity may carry this material forward, and with the availability of alternatives, (even VAG has one), the consequences of this malady need not ever occur.
