This show's how old I'm getting... What on earth is a crackle map? I've never even heard of one, how does it make the car bang and pop? By tricking the DV to stay shut and induce compressor stall or by chucking in fuel at the wrong time... I'm guessing the latter, how very pointless.

Do you have a vcds cable? If so you can flash it using that and the nefmoto software (assuming it’s an ME7 ECU). If you are flashing a stock tune the checksums will be done. One of the main risks to bricking the ecu is low battery voltage so I would recommend hooking up battery charger before doing the flash. Also copy the current ECU file first in case you need to flash it back on.

This is useful resource for ME7 tuning:

The guy I got the car from put the map on and I have no idea why! Well that's not true I have a few idea's! The car was in need of a major service (plug gap was massive) and the timing was out. Could be he was try to put back the power these issues had caused.

Thanks for the info on flashing the ECU. All the sensors are still connected fitted to the car so It should be a simple job off flashing it back hopefully.

If you just want to flash it back to stock, then clone mpps cable in the link will do it. Pretty straight forward job. Checksums cause no issues unless you change something in software. If car has some hardware removed such as N249 valve, SAI system, rear O2 sensor, stock software will trigger fault codes and check engine light.
Crackle tunes are trend these days, every ******** wants them.

Remapping ECU's Anyone done it and provide any advice.

The TT that I'm currently putting back to it's former glory has been remapped, and I want to put it back to a factory map. Now I like my cars factory car spec, however for this car it's not the main reason I want to put it back to standard. Someone has put a crackle map on the car. I never heard it before as I was being very gentle on the throttle, but now that I have a bit of confidence in the car I been putting my foot down a little and on lift off all I can hear is the **** end farting away. Now I'm a grumpy old git and just don't like it, don't get me wrong it goes very well but it's just so irritating. You just don't need pops & bangs when going into Sainsbury's!

I've been given a link to a flashing tool https://obddiagnostic.co.uk/product/...u-chip-tuning/

Also a link to a forum where I can find the mapping software. http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/

I've also been given the stock map for the part number of my ECU. There was talk about checksum validated flash and other issues I could run into. Is this fairly straight forward or an I walking into a world of pain? As I don't want to brick the ECU and have to by another and sort all the immobiliser out.

Car is a 2003 TT with a 225 BAM engine

Any advice on this would be welcome.
