ACE 80 competition issues

hello forum members.

I have 1994 b4 competition and its doing my nut in.

the previous owner has wired a switch under the dash which I believe goes to the 5th injector to hard wire it. as it is only possible to start the car when pressing this switch. and the car is always quite hard at starting and dose not like to start when hot. you really need to be tickling the throttle to get the car to start and its hit and miss.

now I want to get to the bottom of all the issues with the car as I enjoy driving it and want to get it back into daily use.

where should I start and what's a good list of things I should do to get to the bottom of these issues.

In my experience with mk2 golf 16v the 5th injector would cause more issues than it resolved, many were left unplugged. Have you confirmed the switch is spliced into the 5th injector, and have you done a fault code read? I believe the ACE engine uses K jet-tronic, half way mechanical and electronic fuel injection.
