    Wastegate spring

    Hello all,

my wastegate has the allen screw covered with some kind of membrane. If i tear that thing open and i screw the alen screw all the way down, what do i gain? Will it cause any problems?

I have been told that basically it will provide better boost pressure up to the redline regardless the ECU mtm chip that i have...Is that true? What should i expect?Something like 1.6 or more overboost and then more like 1.4 to the red line rather than 1-1.2bar to the redline that i have now..???

    thanks
    Vasilis

i tried to open up the cap on my wastegate and as i did i noticed that i dont seem to have a screw in there. It all seems stuck and permanently tethered together not allowing me to use some kind of force to make the supposed screw workable. So is there someone out there that has a wastegate cap that uses a workable screw for me to buy?

IMHO I would not adjust the spring as the ecu is mapped for its present tension with all failsafes in place.
If you increase mechanical boost above standard without a remap you run the risk of high mechanical boost if something goes wrong and the ecu is trying to limit Xs boost to protect the engine.

actually what im trying to do is maybe bring the lag a bit down.nothing extreme, just a few turns so that i can have the turbo spin earlier than 3700rpm!!! maybe the spring has gone bad...should i buy a new one?

I'm intrigued to know about preloading of WG springs too. Preloading doesn't alter the rate of the spring, it just delays the point at which it will start to open.

But, given the ECU controlled nature of the wastegate, would preloading also have an adverse effect on the way this works?

              oops!!!

after trying to screw the wastegate top cap with the 6 8mm screws, one of them snapped!!

Is that very bad??all others have been tightly screwed. Will i be loosing anything from there??

              cheers!

NOOOOOO ! If you wish to do that you need a stiffer spring and a remap. I should know as that is the basis of MRC/Mihnea remaps

since i have no means of knowing the way the mtm stage 1 chip works,i was thinking that something is going wrong since i couldnt find a reason for such a late spool for the turbo, like im using a KKK 26/27/29 turbo.!!! So the easiest thing to replace is the spring,or find a way to just stiffen it a bit.Nothing extreme, just a few mm lower than original.I havent tryied it yet but now i have lowered it i guess 4mm with a couple of washers.I want to see the results before going to a remap and a spring...
