    Newbie info request

Hi peeps - future S2 newb here and just wanted a bit of info about the S2 and tuning..

I'm looking for a quick, comfortable and reliable everyday driver that i can take on track. I've had a 2.8 coupe quattro before (which is where my B4 Coupe love stems from ) and loved the feel and poise of the car although it had its weaknesses... very vague and light steering, understeer, a bit wallowy in quick direction changes and with the 2.8 anyway it felt very underpowered....... but I've never driven an S2
Brakes also were a bit pants, but some DS2500s sorted that

so when i've finshed saving for a decent late S2 I would look to decompromise it and prepare it for fast road and track attack
Normally with cars i like to concentrate on handling first, but this point is a bit moot with the S2, perhaps poly bushes and fatter arbs would suffice initially...

my concern is that it might be feel a bit underpowered with the 4wd drag and the coupe's chubby belly

So am i correct in thinking the 3B is the earlier 220 brake lump, the ABY is the later 230 brake version? What is the difference in engine spec?
    what is stock boost?
is an AFM used or is it a MAP sensor?
    internal / external WG?

what are the usual tuning routes and limits of stock components (eg fuel pump, cooler, turbo, internals etc) can anyone give me a rough idea of tuning routes, approx outputs and costs for different stages?

What are the weak/compromise points of the stock setup?

Cheers for any help / advice / info

Back to school young man and read the S2 text book http://s2central.net/main_frame.html

Do yourself a favour and get an ABY not a 3B especially if your going to mod it long.

Get it chipped via S2central of the same website for 280bhp

    WG is external

Won't find anything on google for S2's... you want s2central.net as Jamo said and search this forum, there's loads of quality threads over the past few years that make good reading.

Oh the 3B tuning can be done, and it's lighter for track use, Jamo's just a 3B-hater

He does have a point though the ABY makes for better tuning and can be taken further without the need for a rebuild of the bottom-end.

All your answers can be found with a bit of forum searching but just to give an idea of what you're probably looking for:

        Brakes - 996 setup
Suspension - HR springs & Bilsteins/Konis, uprated ARBS
Engine - Chip to 280 will get you started. How far do you wanna go?

        Cheers

          Me? a 3B hater?

You'll find on this forum there is no such thing as stage tuning, as stage tuning as a band word used by cheque tuners trying to rip you off.

Set your BHP and torque targets and we can advise what equipment will get you to that level at a fraction of a cost as a set "stage"

i've always looked at tuning in 'stages' really, i suppose as a way of making sure any mods have the correct supporting mods to maintin reliability

            eg

            1) intake, exhaust, plugs, fuel pump and boost increase
            2) bigger injectors, more boost, remap
            3) exhaust manifold, cams, oil cooler, remap and so on..

I suppose its hard tio give yourself a power target - its all too easy to get greedy

maybe a budget is a better benchmark for me lol

It is also a good target to do it by budget. The reason why we say find a BHP target is you only want say 360 bhp, you can do away with multiple remaps, uprating rods have a RS2 turbo etc. Audi OEM parts are strong and you can go to a very decent bhp with minimal outlay.

Take a standard ABY at 230 bhp, then take it too 280 bhp for roughly £250 how many other cars could do that? But it you stage tuned you'd ended up having paid bits your not using or dont need as it's part of the "stage"

You want 400+ bhp get a garrett 3071R or 2871 uprate rods, injectors, exhaust,

Stage tuning sucks mate, you pay top dollar then go for stage 2 and replace the same parts for top dollar again!. It's more expensive and really for people who want to say i'm at stage 2

you and your Audi are on a life journey we just tell you how to get where your going

You will not require larger injectors untill you upgrade the turbo as the stock ones keep up with even the best maps on the standard K24. Running 22psi/1.5bar

Like Jamo said, RS2 bits are the S2 tunning tool But come at a price and there are other routes.

22 psi on the stock turbo? sheesh! thats quite a bit!
at what kind of boost do you run into charge cooling issues?

ok so, say i wanted about 350 ponies and a decent map for low down torque, what am i looking at?

I think if you read newsh thread, 3b/rs2 will give you alot of good asnwsers.

A RS2 turbo will give you about 2bar of boost and it can be mapped to get low down torque but you will need a set of rods, this will also bring you over your 350bhp quoter.

Also a RS2 ic will be fine for this

350 is a simple bench mark, using an ABY as the car here are the basics

RS2 turbo or Gt2871r, RS2 exhaust manifold, RS2 or equivalent injectors, RS2 or Custom intercooler ( see threads by MartinJS, s2_bo and you'll see what I mean ), new crossmember or modified standard one to hold the intercooler.

If you wanted allot of low down torque then new rods but stock rods can handle 500-550 NM of torque and RS2 turbo can produce more than this!

remap or generic chip ( s2central can provide or MRC / Corey can have it mapped ).

Optional 7A exhaust cam or RS2 exhaust cam.

Samco boost hoses, optional Samco water hoses

Uprated front brakes, Porsche monoblocks would do fine

Rs2 front anti roll bar, Whiteline rear anti roll bar

Fuel pump optional upgrade to bosch 044 pump, new fuel filter (must!)

Suspension take your pic, ultimate road holding = Bilsteins shocks + H&R springs ,everyday or city cruiser = Koni shocks + H&R / standard springs
