    will not start

Hi, my car turns over and starts when its cold or cooled down
but engine will not turn over when hot, but when pushed it will
start . Eliminated the two culprits i.e Starter motor & battery.
Any simillar experinces??? I would appreciate any feed back.

I've had that very problem - it was the hall sensor that is behind the Cam Pulley - about £80 but you have to take the cam pulley off to change it.

I'm sure I read somewhere that someone poured water down the back of that pulley (to wash the sensor!) and it started working better!

ski like doug says probably the hall sensor.

I replaced mine a while back when i was fault finding when first got the car, didnt turn out to be the problem so ive got two sensors sitting at the garage that are in good order.

          pm me if ur interested.

            moonlight

I thought it was the starter motor. Vagsport was kind enough to change
over my starter moter with a spare one he had.... at 9.00pm last night
took him40 mins. Their is no stopping that man...
Send my starter motor for testing.
Will check ignition switch( highly unlikely)
            Then might change hall sender.
            Cheers for feebback Guyz.

Jees - pull a firkin fault code once in a while...

With regards G4 (crank ref sensor) or G40 (cam position aka hall sensor). Duff or zero signals from either of these means the car will crank all day but never fire up - as the ECU has no clue about mechanical position of engine.

If the engine isn't cranking when hot then it could indeed be a faulty starter/solenoid... and yes there have been ignition switch problems reported by some folk. Could also just be a bad earth or loose connection in the loom... I say 'just' but these are usually the hardest fault to track down.

Hall sender problem seems to be relatively common with the RS2. Symptoms are failing to start when car is hot. Previous owner of my beastie had this happen to him when he was on holiday in Italy - didn't dare stop car anywhere unless they could park in shade and weren't intending to move for a while!

Doh - I never read you original post corerctly like Paul says - it will not be the hall sender if the engine does NOT turn over when warm.

The engine does not turn over when hot, it does not crank.
Anyway sent my starter motor to a recon-specialist. They had it on a rig
And found cracked and pitted connections on the solonoid. A
company in kent. Got it back today nice & clean. They also cleaned the
Heat shield for the solonoid but the best bit is the price....
                    Not 120+ vat from audi.....
                    Not 87+vat from ECP....
But 11.75 including vat... that right
All the terminals and connections are brand new and its been sprayed
                    black with 12 monhs guarantee.
Also found a company that refaces clutches will inquire and post feedback.
I've just realised how much Parts companys have a massive mark up.:eek2:

Double Doh!!! I should have read the first post properly too, that'll teach me.

Pleased you got it sorted and at a brilliant price too .

The temp starter motor is not an rs2 item it seems slightly smaller with
no heat shield and higher geared. Can you imagine living about an inch
away from the down pipe, shielded between engine and belly pan???
Back to vagsport for a pit-stop change. I recon should not take us
more than 20 minutes start to finish, and this is a car with Air con
and without dismantling any other components

                          OK

Replaced the starter motor last night at Vagsport with original re-con.
So far,so good. Keeping fingers crossed as i'm about to take it for shakedown test
