    Oil Eating 7a

    Hey guys,

The new CQ20 is consuming a rather large amount of oil, not particulary bothered as the engine is going to be changed when I have ahd a chance to clean it up and replace all the gaskets....

    Now the question is........

    Where is it going to?

The exhaust fumes smell a bit sweet,
I do get a fair bit of white smoke until the car is warmed up, then only get a little bit when at WOT. Other than that it seems fine, There is a minute (I mean a few drops) leak from the oil pressure sensor and a weeping cam cover gasket (which annoyingly goes onto the EM and can cause a bit of a stink in the car with the fans on full. Other than that I am guessing Stem seal....

Would this be a good assumption?
Only thing is it doesn't smell like it is coming out of the exhaust????

    cheers

I'd say valve stem seals, i changed all mine and it more or less stopped all oil consumption. High revs is when they leak the most IMO, if you drive like a granny you will find it wont use any oil.

if it was steam seals you would get a lovely blue haze behind you on over run, id guess your high oil consumption is a combination of your cam cover gasket and your oil pressure sensor seal,

Are you getting any oil on the undertray, under the fuel-rail? If so, check the rubber hose connecting the crankcase breather for leaks. (Watch out though, it's a b*tch to get to).

its commen thet the piston scurt on syl 3 are cracked... have 3 engine at home where the 3rd piston are gone
change the engine or rebuild it. 5 pots engine does NOT burning oil, even they have 300000 km on the neck; if so the engine are sick/ worn out

                    Aaron:
Check the crank case breather pipe that connects to the boot by the throttle body.
Mine was so caked with melted rubber from the crank case breather hose and old that the only way I could clear it was to light it with a torch and let it burn off.

Also check your oil pan bolts to see if they have loosened over time.

Cheers dude, I have noticed that after a drive the oil cap is harder to get off, thought it may just have been expansion on the cam cover but maybe tis a bit of pressure.....

                      Cheers
