    Engine hoist

    Two questions

    1) How much does an S2 engine weigh
    2) Anyone have a hoist/lift sat gathering dust that I can borrow...suitable payment can be made

I need to get the engine out to change the bloody steering rack and also to sort out a couple of leaks on the engine itself which will probably be a ton easier with it out.

    Any help appreciated!

              Gotta love this place !

Good luck with that little job Dave - and take plenty of photos along the way for posterity - its good to share.

My weekend's realms of the unknown task is changing the front air springs and dampers on that darned allroad. I say bum to anyone that thinks an S2 is expensive to run - our allroad is just hitting *that* age where some of the big items need doing - it was the timing belt service last month. Whats the smiley for burning plastic ? Actually it isn't all that bad - I love the big bus really and it looks amazing when it gets a bath and a quick polish.

Guys, thanks for the offers, I logged in this morning to be greeted by a request VERY local to me, about 4 miles infact so I'm going to save some petrol money and spend it on the car instead

This place is fantastic, make a call and always a helpful response

trolley jack or a sissor jack is always handy to put under the gearbox for when your putting it back in

It would be a right pig with the engine in... And I would utterly 2nd the suggestion of Wab on the clutch - only I have a sneaking suspicion that Dave had a new clutch fitted in the last year or two.

Think your right... he had Tom do it with a gearbox oil change a couple of years back...

Good luck David, as said, if you've not got it back together (or taken out?) in 6 weeks time when I get home I'll be happy to come and give you a hand where I can!

Cheers and goodluck!! Expecting some pics...

yep thats right, Tom replaced it about 18months ago so all should be fine. I'm looking to change anything and everything that is a pig to replace with the engine in situ

@ Ross, cheers for the offer, mucho appreciated! Have a great holiday BTW....

Question, is it easier to just remove the engine or drag the g/box out attached to the engine as a single unit?

I'd leave the g/box where it is David, much easier.
