    Overheating after hard run

Gave the old girl some real stick this morning :mischeif: went after a porker boxter s (no probs)and then a V70R with definate tweeks (and good driver unlike the boxter s boy) was very quick, but not quick enough. Got back parked on the drive went inside made a cuppa, neighbour knocked on the door "quick your cars on fire"! Steam as it turned out, (thank god) from the expansion tank cap (along with loads of coolant), cap was done up nice and tight. Faulty cap? Thermostat? Anyone got any thoughts or other comments or ideas

Could be the rubber seal inside the cap they misshape and can leak

If the seal was leaking it would be like opening the cap when its hot and it all pisses out on the floor just check the seal

Hope it aint any thing 2 bad mate

Be careful thats how my car started out exactly the same blows coolant out after a hard thrash and I thought it was a faulty cap and replaced it, it's was a a blown head gasket in the end.

Thanks for that Jamo (not quite so reasuring as K R s reply) but we will see. If head gasket theres no sign of any mayo on the dipstick or underside of the oil filler cap

Ah thats what i thought but it's not that clear cut regarding head gaskets.

If the gasket goes around the exhaust side you get exhaust gasses in the coolant and no oil contamination.

Replace the coolant cap and have your expansion tank header sniffed for hydrocarbons by a garage.

Could be a cracked header tank as well - I had that happen to mine, a sort of plastic corrosion. I think the replacement one that I got had to be replaced by Robatron too for a similar issue?

Worth getting the tank sniffed (that sounds pervy!) as Jamo suggests above as well though, important to rule out something like a head gasket.
