Just trying to work out alternatives to the standard Power Output Supply and coil packs on the rally car. The engine is AAN and do I go for the 1.8T coil conversion or the 034 High Output conversion?
Another question is what is the difeerence between the red top coils 06C 905 115F and the more common 06B 905 115 ones? Is there a higher output?
I wrote the 1.8t coil pack conversion DIY instructions that KnightRiderS4 gave you the link to. I honestly don't know whether the red/orange top coil packs are really any different in their output relative to the normal black top coil packs. What I do know is if you go for black 115 coil packs, make sure they are the latest 115R version. They seem to stand up better.
Based on empirical evidence, it seems if you only go to about 360 hp with RS2 hardware (and say, MRC software), the 1.8t coil packs work for a street car. If you are tracking the car, then a heat build up might kill the 1.8t coil packs. Either way, DO NOT run the OE coil pack cover, then you will cook the coils for sure. (Right Cory?)
Going to the 034 high output coils is good for cars with over 360 hp and tracking. I am not sure what happens with the OE POS in that application. Perhaps Cory can enlighten us.

I dunno you do the write up for the 1.8T conversion and you think you can not spell peoples name correctly, sheesh some people.
As Dave says with the 1.8T coil you CANNOT use the OE coil cover as it destroys the 1.8T coil very quickly, I proved that myself, the conversion works with some generic remaps but not all, I have found it doesn't like MTM (but then who does ) but is perfect with one of (and I know I'll hate saying it ) MRC's.
Custom remaps do not affect them either btw.
034 HO coil delete the OE POS also and are the only thing to use above 350bhp (or if your originals are ok you can use them) and these do enable the use of the coil pack cover also.
Thanks for that folks. Confirms my fears of coil overs in competition use. Heat is a problem, as you can imagine, in the rally car engine bay with some European Stages being 20km in length and not having the same air flow throught he radiator as track days. (Lot more acceleration from lower speeds).
7A Cam cover now fitted ready for High Output coil installation and Brake Servo being fitted this between event tinker!

Sorry about that Corey, it was late and I couldn't remember if it was Cory or Corey. We have a Corey in our local UrS club but I thought yours was the other one.
Anyway, thanks for the 034 comments. I run MRC software (good for about 360 crank) and a 1.9 bar WG spring and have had good luck with 115L coils (lost one in 18 months). Replacements will be 115Rs, when they are needed. NOTE: When I did the original conversion, there were NO alternatives to the OE set up. If Javad had the high output coils at the time (summer 2005) I would have likely just gone that way and the 1.8t coil pack conversion may never had happened.
Yes and I know about the Dubweiser conversion. I don't think it was quite the same. I tried contacting them for details in 2006 and got nothing in return.
