    crankcase hose

Evening guys, can somebody tell me if im right or wrong here?
Where the MAF hose sits there is a connection to a metal pipe which runs under the whole length of the air intake pipe, this then joins a rubber pipe at the back of the engine.
The pipe then comes round the left hand side of the engine (at the back ) and has a big round cap, which is joined to a rubber hose, which then sits on the bottom of the block.
My problem is that this hose has perrished and for a temp. job I've bunged it up for now, so what harm will this do? Boost seems down . Easy part to get?
    Cheers Andy

that rubber pipe is a f**ker to change BTDT and if i remember correctly not a cheapy either....

Not sure of what effect blocking it will have but its the PCV circuitry (positive crankcase ventilation which recirculates fumes from the crankcase into the intake to tidy up the emissions.

no, its about 90 quid and a right PITA to change....
If that one has gone, chance are a couple of the others have done too.... its q few quid to do, along with a couple of valves and a flame trap, but well worthwhile (should make it a happier car)
BTW, its the PCV system which everyone talks about...
alternatively fit a catch tank, I dont think there is alot of price difference...!

is that the pipe that recycles the blow by gasses from the crank case? if it is the gasses will build up crank case pressure and blow out oil past the crank seals as it can't escape.

          re

hmm, emissions eh? Maybe all this is connected to the fact the cars running a bit lumpy. Re-fitted the air box today and kinda helped as you would expect. Ive had the whole hose out before and wasn't easy.
Its the hose from the crankcase to the big plastic cap thats gone. Also there doesn't seem anything for a new hose to connect to- just seems a big round gap but no neck to secure a hose on it.
Wondered in terms of boost if this was a factor to mine down to 1.2 bar rather than 1.4 max.

          P.s what is BTDT?

As an alternative... if anyone with busted PCV hoses can send them to me, I can get quotes from Samco for replacement items made from flourosilicon - its oil resistant.

These alloy joobries look nice right enough, but I'm pretty sure I can get the Samco hoses cheaper than Audi prices for the original parts.

did any thing come of this?

so after all of this could this affect boost? If air is passing thru the maf hose wouldn't it also enter the pipe leading to crankcase hose? As mine is fooked surely air is escaping?

as far as i can remember if there is a split in the hose air could be sucked in after the maf so un metred air can get into the intake but can't see how it would affect boost as it is before the turbo
