only reason i said oil pum is you have the pressure relief valve etc built into it and its fitted behind the crank pulley.

Are you not getting the cam pulley mixed up with the crank pulley? There is a sensor behind the cam pulley.

                    Timucin,
You mean the cam belt wheel that attaches to the rear of the harmonic balance pulley? This part has the key that locates into the crank nose. I had this break off on my motor

                    Part number - 034 105 263 A

Probably best to replace the four allen headed bolts that secure it to the pulley too.

                    Part number - N 014 726 3 (M8x30)

If the keyway is damaged or the cam belt sprocket, you could experience problems with your cam timing.

It's called the timex pulley. The key usually breaks due to some idiot trying to undo the pulley bolt while holding the engine on the transmission rather than the correct Audi tool (2084).
I would change it at the same interval you would a cambelt.
Is it worth risking your engine for a £30 part?

                        Hi Corey,

I'm about to change my cam belt, what does tool 2084 look like? Can I make one or is it too complicated? I have access to good engineering facilities, no time but access all the same.

I could knock one up and take it to the garage meeting so that people could use it. I noticed a couple of people talking about cam belt swaps there.

I made my own, I have the drawing somewhere.

The Audi tool is actually made from 2 pieces of steel welded together, I machined mine from solid.

I will post it here if anyone wants it?
