Does anyone know the weight difference of these engines?
ADU or 3b I5 20v T
V6 2.7T
V6 2.8 12v
4.2 40
I’m pretty sure that both the I5 and v6 12v are both cast-iron. The I5 probably weighs less then the v6 and can undoubtedly make much more power and be reliable. The V6 2.7T is all aluminum and not counting the turbos probably weighs the least out of any of the engines listed above. I would Imagine that both the 32v and 40v V8weigh around the same or less then the cast-iron blocks because they are all aluminum.
I’m trying to figure this out for a track/road car build. Any general weight opinions as well as exact weights would be appreciated. What do you think the most reliable easy to build and tune engine is? I need to have sequential injection and ignition and I know that the s4 and rs4 engines will already be way ahead of the others on that in terms of sensor layout.
I don’t really like the 4 banger engines out there although after stumbling upon the Dutch Supercar Challenge and seeing Steve Hirst and Ric Wood fly by a lot of really exotics including a Ferrari I was stunned to see the 1.8T under the hood.
Watch the Audi appear behind the F360 at about 6:30 into the video and watch it rip past it and absolutely walk away at 8:35.
