Usually removed as it can get in the way of tuning bits like a larger rad, different IC or because it's stopped working and he couldn't be bothered to fix it. My AC has never worked and I keep meaning to fix it but there's always something else that comes up and steals the money away!

Re-fitting it would require assessment of the seals and components such as the condenser (mine's knackered) but it would be a couple of hours work to bolt it all back together. Then get it pressure tested and re-gassed.

If the rest of the car is top-notch then I would not let it worry me as it's a minor detail and not uncommon to have knackered AC on a 10+ year old S2!

The reason is the price of the aircon parts, you could be easilly looking 1k in replacement parts alone!
