    ABY Cam Cover question

Can anyone please confirm that the breather tube that runs inside the cam cover should be a hollow tube right through from the rear of the cover to the elbow that exits the front drivers side ?

A friend informs me that the similar AAN cover, he can see daylight when looking down the tube - my ABY one appears to be plugged with a metal face with what might be a pin hole in the centre. I have always assumed that this was a 15mm bore right through?????

Anyone??, someone must have an ABY cover lying around.

Pic below. Owens seems not to continue through the block circled. It's not blocked with gunk, but seems to have never been machined through. Looking down the tube Owen can see alloy at the bottom. Maybe a casting mistake from the factory?? .
This being like this can't be right, seems daft to go to the trouble of routing the breather through the rocker only for it to be blocked off inside that red circled block. The pipe is part of the rocker and can't be removed.
A friend has checked his AAN cover (the slightly different one) and can see daylight through that tube.

      Thanks Jas,

Yes definitely not blocked with gunk - soaked with degreaser and even petrol so tube is all shinly inside. Looking again, I'm now convinced that the "pin hole" is a machining mark and not an actual hole (after soaking in petrol it's gone shiny too).

When I bought this car 4 years ago, the cam cover gasket was leaking. I had it changed under warranty. 2 years later, it leaked again and I changed it. It is now leaking again (how I discovered this today) so wonder if this car has had a history of this prior to my receipt (nothing noted specifically in service history)?

      Any help appreciated.

Just to put this one to bed.
That breather pipe inside the rocker cover (enters at the back, exits at the front right) looks as though this has been a casting fault from the factory and has been like this since new
Owen has replaced with a good one and all is sorted, no more puffs of smoke on gear change.

        Warranty claim ?

          Correct Jas - all sorted!

This pic shows how much shorter the tube is effectively in the original cover :

The bottom of the tube hits the casting and stops - never been machined through!
