    What's this engine part & what's missing

Hi all.. OK I admit I'm NOT an amazing Audi modding fanatic... so this question is going to seem pretty weird to most of you...

I had the AA out the other day cos of a flat battery problem, and while the mechanic was under the bonnet, he pointed out a part of the engine, which appeared to have a vacuum hose missing from it.

Ihave attached a photo of another S2's engine bay showing the same part, and the little nipple which looks like it should ahve a vacuum hose attached... I've hunted through several engine photos on the S2 Forum, and NONE of the cars have anything attached to this nipple... so what's it there for???

My one is on a car with 140k on the clock, and the engine bay is undertsandably dusty - yet the end of the nipple is cleaner, as if it DID have a hose attached at some point. is it possible this has anythign to do with the "power loss" problem in my other post?

It's meant to be like that, there is no hose missing.

This is the most common question asked by a new S2 owner

    Silly AA man

It's the top chamber of the wastgate, on other cars boost pressure is controller by pressuring the top and bottom chamber. On the S2 only the bottom chamber is pressurised for boost control.

It's a legacy design thats not used.

      LMAO at the AA man.

That said, I asked the very same question when I joined!

Lol, think everyone has asked that one, AA men love to do that though. Find a nice car with a few years behind it and trash it to the owner who will say nothin cos he really just wants it going again and not to be stranded! I once had an RAC man tell me my mk2 golf was 'all wrong' cos they never came with 16v lumps in the 88 model! Told him to pack his spanners and phek orf!

Best advise i can give if you aren't very mechanically minded is find a good mechanic that you trust and stick with him! When i got mine my mate who is a mechanic had not done much work on this model before although had worked on lots of exotic metal and did a lot of servicing for works rally teams. But although we had to find out a lot of the common faults and causes from here, going back to the same mate ment we both know the car and its excentric problems. swappin from garage to garage just means they won't fix it then blame the guy before. Just my 2p.
