    power loss... any ideas please

My S2 ABY has an occasional power loss problem which is VERY frustrating, and I wonder if any of you can help please.

WHEN : Like all good faults it does NOT happen ALL THE TIME, but several times a week, which is painful as hell.

SYMPTOMS : As you accelerate firmly, taking her over 3,000 -4,000 revs, the car suddenly "kangaroo jumps" as if the fuel is being cut, then flowing, then cutting again... when this happens you can accelerate VERY slowly and smoothly, but anything even part-way interesting causes this problem.

OTHER : If I depress the clutch and just rev the engine, it revs fine to 6,000 + revs with no faultering...so problem only seems to happen under load

AND : When it's happened I've sometimes switched off the ignition and restarted, and it's clear and fine again.

(note: on drives where this fault does not happen, you can stamp on the pedal, and enjoy the full turbo experience...and she takes off like Concorde)

    Any ideas please?

You have a boost leak sir most likely but i'd say knock sensors as it goes away when you clear the ignition.

Get the car Vag-com for fault codes, and also pressure test the system for boost leaks.

Ah the overboost protection dance, it is the most frustrating thing and can be tricky to cure without taking off and checking all hoses/clips and also worth checking connections for sensors like the maf/throttle pot/WGFV, mine used to overboost cos the MAF connector wasn't spot on and moisture must have been gettin in and causing the connection to get dirty. So tin of IPA/contact cleaner is always handy too. Good luck dude, keep the faith!
