    Alternative to Homefry's?

I have been mailing the guy off of here that offers the Homefry service on here for a couple of weeks and I have not had anything back from him.

Anyone got any idea of an alternative and what gains, how much does it cost and what needs done.

I am a little dissapointed, but you can only ask so many times for information before you need to start looking at other products.

    Thanks in advance folks.

    Cheers

    Stevie

You will not find anything that can touch a homefry for the price of the chip

If you can afford the extra then go to MRC for a realtime remap, there is also Automark as well offering the same service but I cannot comment on their work.

I had an AMD chip in my S2 and had it replaced with the Homefry. It made a huge difference in the way the car performed compared to the AMD one (consistency/smoothness).

Paul's chip takes care of Timing & Fueling as well as Boost, unlike others who only alter Boost. Therfore, the homefry has a better generic application, these others tend to require a RR set-up to get the best for an individual car. Agree with other members that for the price/performance it can't be beaten.

MRC are also excellent for a Custom Remap (I had one on my RS4) but it will cost you more and you will have to go to Banbury. You might squeeze an extra 10bhp from this too.

Paul will also send you an ECU with homefry to try/use while he gets yours done, so no need to travel or put your car off the road. Quick turnaround too!

As above, if you want to wait a bit longer (Paul's uber-busy) the homefry gives the best bang-for-buck for the stealth modder (ie. just a remap and no other hardware mods like exhausts/ cams/ turbos/ manifolds/ injectors/ intercoolers etc).

The best chip guru in my opinion would be Mihnea at MRC. As noted by others, they can do a full real-time custom map which optimises everything to the actual mechanicals of your own car. (although you can also have a standard MRC map - Mihnea has examples of all the countless maps he's already done for every ECU he's ever seen) This involves you driving to Banbury and will cost you more than the homefry. You will probably see a bit more over the homefry on standard hardware, and if you're customising, it is the only way to go.

MTM used to do S2 re-chips (I think they were the first?), which would mean you finding an MTM agent (Haywards Heath, near Brighton). They used to charge £1100 for an S2 remap and involved sending the ECU back to Germany for a week, don't know what they charge now.

Other options used to include AmD (gone bust) and a few others like Dyalinx (is that the right spelling?), but to be honest I would recommend you either wait for Paul, or get yourself to Banbury with MRC.

3 people in the country I would recommend for chip upgrades on an I5 turbo.

Paul's homefry (simple and effective) generic remap
MRC offer both generic and custom
Automark, who we use for all our custom remaps.

All others use an ancient Superchip variant.

                      1. How much does it cost?
                      2. What are the performance gains and would you suggest any other changes to get the best from the chip? I have 93 ABY avant and she is totally bog stock...
                      3. I need the car for work, so do you offer a "loan" ecu?
                      4. What is your turn around time?

Well ok, that's what they did 7 years ago or so when MTM was the only company doing remaps on the S2 and it was all considered rather sophisticated...
