There are many causes of boost leaks in the S2, especially if it's on all of its original rubber intake hoses. As mentioned above, get it diagnosed by a forum member with VAGCOM and a pressure testing kit, then you can make a start in tracking down and replacing the exact problem.

Re chipping - get the boost leaks fixed first, you'll be losing a huge amount of performance from those, and chipping it will still only force the air out through those leaks! Once your plumbing is plugged, a chip will get you a 60bhp gain up to the 270-280bhp mark, with a 60nm increase in torque. A huge gain in performance for not much money. But first, fix the leaks!

VagCom? I’ve got it, but I’ve never needed to use it on the S2. Just check your ECU for blink codes. Get yourself a 12V LED and follow the intructions on s2central:

      Introduction
      Where to connect
      How to connect
      What the codes mean...

Then get yourself a pressure test kit. Buy one, borrow one, whatever, just pressure test all of the boost hoses and check all the small bore vacuum lines too. I found most of the originals had crumbled to pieces long ago.

          Geography lesson for Jamo:

Kendal is in Cumbria, just south of the lake district national park.

Sounds like a pressure test is in order, 10psi = ~.7bar. If the guage is a little innacurate that could be about right - it's a 3B so 0.8bar remember (no overboost) is stock. At least it's not been 'played with', makes it a little easier to check.

Don't think there is anyone in Kendal on the board. Couple of ppl up in Carlisle. My brother has a mate in windermere that's very good with anything on 4 wheels, would be surprised if he didn't have vag-com.

I lived there for a few years - last time I took the 3B up there, it had an external WG which was fun @ WOT on lowther st (v. narrow, tallish buildings )
