    Loom problems

    Hi guys,

We have been playing about today tryin gto figure what is going on with the guages inside.

    1. Voltage reads fine at 14
    2. Oil pressure goes off the scale and stays there even without being conected to the loom....
    3. The oil temp guage stays at 60, even though after running the car for 10 mins the temp warning light comes on the comp.?????/

    Any clues,

I have stripped the little part of the loom off to have a buthcers and have found a break in the cable that goes to the temp sender (brown 4 pin connector) which I am getting fixed but the rest is still confusing me?

    Any thoughts.

I am getting tight for time at the moment as I really would like to get the car ready for my birthday as a bit of a treat for me but only have two weeks left

    Cheers

The oil pressure guage will go off the scale until it gets a proper signal from the sender. When I got my S2 the sender was disconnected and the guage went straight up everytime. Plugged it back in and it works fine.

Have you tried it all plugged in properly yet? If it still does it with the sender plugged in then it is probably a faulty sender.

I would fix the temp sender wiring then plug it all in and see how it goes.

There are no controlers or relay´s between them.
The relay behind the gauge is just for the instrument lights.
Just connect them to earth (-) and the shoud drop (Resistance mesuring)
Kan mail you a wirring plan i you like.

I have given the section of the loom to a friend of mine to do all the wiring on, The whole section is brittle and probably has a few breaks in it. The car seems to be running stupidly hot too which is prob due to wrong fuelling etc, As sson as the loom is sorted will give it another try..... CAn someone please clarify with me a few things.....

1 the big sender in teh water manifold is the main one which controls the dash guage?
2 The little one controlls the rad to some degree?

            3. Which of teh senders on the side of the block do what, guess the top (big one) is oil temp????
The front one is for oil pressure?

Just to clarify all this for me as I seem to have lost my listing somewhere when I need it most.

            Cheers

              Right then.

Got a remade loom back yesterday and have plugged it in.

Just a quick check can anyone tell me the colour of the wires that go to the oil senders on the side of the block???

The dash temp guage is working again
The oil temp and pressure guage are still off the scale or cnot moving (correspondingly of course). If I check the wire colours I can make sure I have the correct one on the correct senderrs

              Cheers Guys

                Colors

                Just see in the PDF

Wirres are black/braun to oil temp sensor G8 and black-white to oil pressure sensor G10

This is for 3B but doesn´t make many differance to a ABY.

                    Just clarify with me too.

Which of the three do what?????

                    1. Big sender with two connectors

Oilpresure sensor with 2 conectors (1 sensor and one switch)
Put on the blue connecter on the pin with a blue spot.
                    G10

                    2. Small sender on side of block - 1 connector

Oil pressure sensor (is not used in the 3 instruments, but in your dash)
                    3. Small sender at front of block with one connector!!

This must be the Oil temperature sensor
                    G8

                      sensors

Make sure you have connected the black 2 pole connector behind the 3 instruments, Here are the sensors on.

DOH, Just reread your PM and got that matey.

Right one question then. The senders will need an earth from somewhere won't they. I.E. the block. Now I have liquid gasketed the senders in to prenvent seepage from them!!!! Take it this was the wrong thing to do!!!!

They do become earth by mounting in engine.
So this could couse a prob.
But you can easily mesure this with a Ohm meter.
The resitance between - and sensor housing should be a few Ohm´s

                          Good luck.
