Strange goings on with flashing thermometer warning

Ive had for the past couple of days the flashing red thermometer come up on the dash. This is straight away from the engine being stone cold, and there is plenty of coolant in the Xpansion tank.

I have bled the system to make sure no air is in. Ive also tried to search the forums for the actual sensor that feeds this trip although it gets a little confusing with the after run coolant pump and fan etc.

I unplugged the sensor on the xpansion tank and it still alarmed so i dont think its that at fault. There are 2 on the water manifold and one at the bottom of the main rad if i remember correctly. Which one of those 3 sensors feed this trip?

    cheers guys

    Matt

I thought if sensor was disconnected it automatically alarmed so it's not a valid test to unplug it?

im not sure which way it alarms, going open or short circuit, i'll put a link across the two sockets tonight with it unplugged to bypass the float switch in the expansion tank and see what happens then, will report back. I would have thought its more likely to alarm going short circuit hence sending 12v somewhere.

If you unplug it, it'll send off an alarm on autocheck
