    A wastegate question

    Hello guys.

I have bought a waste gate from Audi S2. I’m going to use it in custom turbocharged engine. I would like to get to know how much boost I can achieve without any changes in WG (I mean for example turning of a spring in WG). Namely how much boost is stock one WG turned/adjusted for?
I know S2 uses EBC to move up the boost. How much boost do you have if EBC is broken, for example?

I hope you understood me. I don’t speak English as good as I wish.

    Cheers,
    Maleckis.

The wastegate spring is very weak it's about 0.4 - 0.6 bar boost

You would need to buy a 1bar or 1.5 bar spring to use it in the manor you want too

He wrote something a bit strange about lower WG chamber disconnected. I think it's not proper way to use WG (driven only by exaust gases). Way better way is to use calibrated springs. You can test such WG with manometer and pump.

However such playing with WG springs is not needed, because we have EBC in 20v motronic.

The WG will never open if the lower chamber is disconnected and the top chamber is pressurised, major boost spike.

The S2 only uses the lower chamber for boost control, i'm planning on using a boost controller controlling both the upper and lower chamber as an experiment.

No! If disconnect a lower hose from WG, the WG is open by exaust gas pressure around 1.6-1.7Bar in intake manifold!
              Sorry for my English))))

I would like to boost 0.4bar in my “low boost set-up” turbocharged BMW M3. Can anybody confirm that the stock spring is about 0.4-0.6bar? Could anybody tell me exact data?

Thank you for your time very much.

How are you building such car without calibrating everything. Take manometer, pump, and hose splitter, and check when wg valve starts moving (opening pressure), and when it's fully open (maximum pressure).

                  As simple as that.

We cannot see in distance, what sits in your (not new) WG. Maybe it had spring replaced in some period of it's life?
