    Turbo Boost bar question....

    Hi all,

Just had my rs2 remapped by MRC and extremely happy with the results

It is now running 1.7 bar. Which being a newbie I was amazed at. 25 psi?! My last turbo car experience was some 12 years ago with a R5 Turbo which ran as 7psi standard I believe?!

Can the RS2 really happily deal with such pressure? The head gasket must be a strong'un. I presume so of course as standard is 1.4 bar. I was just shocked at the boost pressures

    Cheers
    Dan

It'll quite happily take that! And as for the RS2 head gasket, there's some running 2.5bar using it - I think it's more a case of using good head bolts (ie ARPs) to make sure it doesnt start to lift on the high-power cars...

I think some run 2.0bar on the RS2 turbo reliably (anyone?)

Sal managed 400bhp on the RS2 turbo at 2 bar

SteveH also had insane boost levels on the RS2 turbo but banana'd the rods!

Ah I see. Well i'm not planning on doing much more (famous last words) but the exhaust really. I have to say though it now drives much more like I imagine it should and I grinned all the way home. Such a fun car, understated yet slightly insane

GT500 has sourced the 18" Cup 1's but the rear are 9.5" wide. He's very busy at the moment and he thinks they are just too wide so guess he's going to try and find two more 8.5" wides. Really appreciate his efforts as sold on these now as look OEMish...

Hope all is well. I've been talking with a couple of local members about a meet soon. Be great to meet all at some point. Just stuck right out on the East Coast so imagine a bit of a trek for general meets?! Although it would be a fun drive I suppose.......

Did you have the custom or generic remap?

How long did it take them?

              etc etc

To be honest I haven't had a read out from Doug. I think he said around 360bhp but it's the torque that has improved the driveability. He fitted a Forge 006 DV and did the Custom MRC remap in around 2 hours. This includes time to have a drive up the road both after the health check and after the remap.

Basically at first it seemed smoother and a little quicker on the run with Doug. Afterwards and on the way home it feels a lot more responsive, smoother (partly down to the fact my original DV was knackered and had a split pipe. Where as before the RS2 tends to loose a little torque in late 3rd gear, it now pulls beautifully in 2nd, 3rd and 4th right to the redline. To be honest i didn't expect 50odd bhp to make that much difference but although I loved it before it now drives as i feel perhaps it should have done out of the factory. Love it. Highly recommend as a 'safe' upgrade.

Doug said an exhaust and a few ECU tweaks afterwards should get a few more 'safe' horses too. Basically I want to drive it a lot so it has to be reliable. I'm not a gearhead and spend my life sitting on my *** at a pc. I don;t have the knowledge or inclination to rebuild the car all the time.....
