Probably the longet S2 project in history EVER!

I have the same rattle and it either sounds like a heatshield vibrating or the dizzy gear. If you open the bonnet and listen over the top of the engine it sounds like its coming from the top of the engine but I am pretty certain its nothing serious....just slightly annoying.Comment

Well I am not completely sure of the sound but I know that it is nothing serious. I can hear it by revving it to about 2k rpm and holding it or by revving it high and leting off the throttle.
If it is the dizzy making the noise, it will just be the gear which you can replace for a metal one off of ebay but the hardest part is getting to the dizzy and the gear to replace it.
I have been meaning to replace mine but I want a good enough reason to replace it first.

You just need to remove the dizzy... you don't need to remove any of the engine at all (although, if you can be bothered to remove the IM it helps...
also removing the ISV helps a little.... Its tight, and a right pain, but its not impossible...!!!
Its easier if the dizzy has been off before, as the tamper cover on the nut will have been removed...
search for dizzy removal, and lots will pop up...
Honda CBR 1100XX Blackbird Turbo....undergoing major changes.....
S2 Coupe... bit easier off the line...
