    Timing belt change

Right its nearly time for this meet so i best pull my finger out and get the bits i need...

What will i need for the timing belt change. If people could give me a list of the parts and part No. too if they know it that would be hugely appreciated.

PS. I know Doug had a long list on a post on here but im just wanting to know what needs to be replaced and a separate one for bits that might be handy to replace. Cos i'm a bit strapped for cash but i'd like to get this changed

Did you getthe clutch fixed then? I don't want to lug the crank locking tool and breaker bar unless I need to.

That is what you will need to replace.

    034 105 229A Crankshaft bolt
    054 109 119H Cambelt
    078 109 244F Tensioner
b#054 121 004 AX Water pump with gasket (check part no.) THis is a must only becasue they can seize and when that happens it rips the cambelt off - seen it happen.

Highly recommended to change the following though:

    069 121 113 Thermostat
    N 901 368 02 Thermostat O ring
Get some coolant hose to replace the rubber hoses under the power steering pump. You'll need some jubilee clips as well - I might have some hose if you want me to look some out.
You'll need to get some coolant if you are doing this.

Probably should replace this stuff at same time:

    034 260 849 AC belt
    034 260 849E PS belt
    034 903 137B Alt belt

Best to check to see if I have missed anything though.

Check www.20v.org for some good instructions. Go under the regular maintenance section for the timing belt change.

          Doug,

Are those part no's specific to the aby as i am due a change of (on my 3b)belts but couldn't get my bumper off last time to do it. If i pull my finger out and see if i can shift the wheel liner bolts then i can make your crank locking tool and breaker bar lugging worthwhile

Also, I have more trust in a garage full of S2 guru's than any audi dealership and some specialists for that matter.....

If i can use those it would be highly appreciated!!!!

Let me know and i can pull the parts together before the weekend.

          Cheers,

David - those parts are the numbers I had on my receipts - I couldn't find the water pump part no. It was bought from Audi.

Check with one of the parts guys to see what parts are for the 3B.

                Doug,

What diameter is that hose under the p/s pump?

                Cheers,

I have a funny feeling it is 10mm ID but you can check - it is the other end of the coolant pipe that goes to the top of your turbo - i'll have a look tonight. I probably have some hose - I will check that tonight as well.

                    Hi Doug,

Managed to get all the parts from vagparts and a waterpump from local stealer - did you have any of that pipe?

Also - do you know if Erwin has a copy of the procedure to change the cambelt?

                    Cheers,

I totally forgot - I will look it out this evening - pm me if I don't get back to you tonight. You will need some jubilee clips.

I have the procedure for changing the cambelt - I'll bring the folder and CD

Cheers Doug - owe you big time!!!

Is the procedure pretty similar for a 3b engine as i know yours is an aby.

off to get jub clips :-)

                        Cheers,

I think your tensioner is different - I'll have a look at the 3B manual.

its probably on the second page now, but u will find a post started by myself names "cam belt". It lists all parts i changed.

Glen did my belt for me as i not technically/mechanically minded and my tool box consists of screwdrivers and fuses. He did a greate job and killed 100 problems while he was at it.

the post might be worth checking out >>> http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...&threadid=1573

it displays the engine etc.. but i got aby dunnu if much difference.
