Where do I go now?

Well I changed the starter motor this morning and after managing to get the bolts back in on the new one I turned the engine over, it didn't start but it was a good start point.
I then spent a while lining up the timing on the engine, the distributor was the most annoying part as I knew to line up the two marks under the cap it was the outer body which was annoying. I'd previously marked the body and engine with a screwdriver before I took it off, after about four attempts I got it lined up and it started up
I then proceded to put the front back together and took it out for a drive, its running ok but seems slightly slower than before. Not sure if thats because i've drove non-turbo car's lately and the power is there straight away? Is it possible for the dizzy to be slightly out in placement or doesn't it matter too much?
Has anyone got any better pictures of how the dizzy sits in relation to the body, the one's on here are good but its just a zoomed out picture i'd like to see.
Thanks for everyone's help so far, means I can get to castle combe and weston's RR day with it now

How did you use the mirror?
With regards to the body IIRC from what I knew you had to have the two marks lined up and the end of the rotor aimed towards cylinder one's lead on the cap?Comment

I am going to attempt to change the dizzy gear on my car this weekend.
I do have a few questions though:
Is this a good time to change my rocker cover gasket? Where can I find the pin for my new Dizzy gear as I'm not sure it came with one (Dan?).
Does anybody have any tips when removing the dizzy to make sure I don't throw the timing out when I pop it back in?
The removal of the IM should be fairly straight forward (I hope) as will the ISV which I have removed myself not so long ago.
Is there anything else I should be made aware of?
Thanks in advance!

Um I actually did mine without removing the IM and rocker coverI am going to attempt to change the dizzy gear on my car this weekend.

I found that it was easiest to put a long screw driver down in between the IM and head and mark the dizzy first off by scratching that and the head. I then spent a while messing around with the tamper cover (complete b***h by the way) using a long screw driver and hammer I knocked this out the way till I could get a 13mm onto the bolt that holds this on. Once i'd took this bolt off (might want a small 13mm spanner for this, sockets won't fit due to dizzy shape) I took the dizzy to a mate who then used a angle grinder and took off one end of the pin till it was flat then knocked the pin out whilst it was held in a vice(we had already removed what was left of the plastic gear).
We then put the new gear on with the old pin which was held in v well (check your gear is not larger at one end than the other, some are)
Then I used the pictures in the search section to line up the timing and re-fitted the dizzy as best I could. My one took a couple of attempts but is working fine now. The other problem I had was the starter motor packed up at the same time

Thanks for the reply mate.
It seems like the hardest part is definatly the dizzy removal and then putting the ****** back in. I think for ease of access it shouldn't take too much effort to remove the IM.
My main concern is finding a new Pin for the dizzy gear and shimms to go with it.Comment

I did not use the shims, all I did was took the old gear/cover from underneath off and put the new one on, the pin helped to hold it in place as well and it did not need it. I used the old pin as it was still long enough and held in enough to help with this. Thanks for the reply mate.

I thought about removing the IM but if I recall you need a tool to do this, I just did not want to take too much off the car. I also had the benifit of s2dude's battery tray mod which helped with access to the bolt.Comment
