    Rotor arm

Can anyone help, I own a '92 3B S2 I need to replace the rotor arm, Audi are telling me the rotor arm cannot be supplied seperately and that I have to purchase a complete distributor £133 exchange - is this true -- surely not!!

I believe that is correct i'm afraid. I don't know of an alternative way round it

My neighbours Audi 80 2.0 has done 169K and the rotor arm is not well, that can't be swapped either.

Hold your horses, check with Martyn or Paul? at vagparts for the part number, he advised me to use a rotor arm from a polo, cant remember which it was though.Only a couple of quid and it works a treat. You will have to grind the old one off, alot easier if you take the dizzy off the car of course.

        Thanks Spink,
That sounds sensible, I suppose the new one would have to be bonded on if there is no location flange available.

If it is swapped then you must be very careful that the new arm is fitted in exactly the right place.

Hold on a sec...... When I rebuilt beetie's head, I replaced the rotor arm on his dizzy! Original one was glued on and had to remove with a die-grinder but I am sure new arm came from stealer and if I am not mistaken was about 8 or 9 quid!
Nick, your stealer must have wrong end of the stick! If you need me to find the part number let me know and I will look through paperwork but it was last year and I will have to ask my boss. Failing that let me have reg and vin/chassis number on a pm and I will ring my stealer and ask if required.
            Regards,
            Chris

sorry havent any numbers but raplaced mine easily with a bosch one from vw audi specialist. Had to brake old one of but new one fitted as any normal one would pushed onto locating keyway. Dident glue it back on as dident know was suposed to but its been fine for over a year.

Yeah, the polo rotor arm fits the keyway, has the spring clip also so is a pretty tight fit, IMHO doesnt need glueing, but did put some on anyway,

The CORRECT rotor arm is only available from the stealers. It is possible to buy seperately.

But before you spend the money on a new cap and rotor, take the dizzy out and check the plastic gear is in good condition. If not then just buy a complete dizzy as its £100+VAT and comes with new cap and rotor

Spink got a new metal gear from a bloke in London. I have his e-mail address. They are somewhere around the 10-20 quid mark.

Metal ones from Audi were available at one time.

Errm uh. There is a Bosch number for the rotor.
DO NOT USE POLO OR 10V PART OR ANYTHING ELSE! They have wider tip and 3B dizzy must use the narrow one!

                        Reference:

And AFAIK there is no plain rotor available at the dealers, they only sell the whole dizzy.
