    hi spec radiator

i would like to run a larger rad/get rid of the auxilliary,i have seen one on 034 but not in this country, does anyone make one over here?i think there was also a thread on changing the rad hoses for an earlier type instead of blanking off the s2 hoses.any leads appreciated (it's getting hot in here!)

    Hi Peter,

Don't know where 'here' is but presume somewhere hot

Anyway, you could run the normal large rad in the S2 and just do away with the aux - not aware of any major issue (in fact i have been doing this for a couple of years without issue). The hose to replace is the lower one coming off the main rad to the thermostat housing on the block with a 7A one as this doesn't have the branch off to the aux rad. You'll still need a bung of some sort for the top opening on the radiator though....

    Cheers

Just been looking for an old post I did on audifans.net detailing the company, telephone number and name of contact that I posted up when someone else said this. I will try find it out, IIRC the company was allusport.

The user willholmania on here would know the name as he's recently fitted one to his UR quattro. They are apparantly 25% better than standard so helps with doing away with the standard aux radiator. If I find the details I will add them in.

        'allisport' just outside Gloucester?

AlliSport have become synonymous with turbo diesel tuning and bespoke aluminium motorsport fabrication, particularly for Land Rover products.

I'm not sure I see the benefit either - maybe on a full on race/rally car where water temps can be elevated... But I've not heard of any heat issues from those running drag strips and trackdays in the UK with auxrad removed.

on a slightly different note, anyone ever come across any major crud in the main radiator? just wondering if its worth worrying about giving mine a proper flush when i remove it or spend the effort and time elsewhere

Yeh it happens overtime, Audiman has a post on here saying how it can kill off the cooling system IIRC

yeah Dave - its a messy job but worthwhile - and a lot easier for you while engine is out - flush it thru in both directions with the thermostat removed. Just from mains pressure with a normal hosepipe.
