    audi 2.8 non starter!?

i sold my 2.8 v6 80 to one of my work mates. since then it wont start! it all started when we changed the batery, took the old one off and put the new one on and the indicators started flashing. it would'nt start after that. he has put a new fuel pump relay in and a 2nd hand central locking pump(because the imobaliser is supposidly built in). he said it had a aftermarket alarm fitted so he took it out aswell. any ideas? would there be a way to bypass the imobaliser?

    cheers adam

Have codes been pulled from the ECU? It might tell exactly what is wrong rather that guessing as to what it might be...

Or you could use a test light. IIRC either at s2central or possible 20v.org will tell you how to do this, been a while since i've done it myself.

Have a look thru some of the old posts on here and see if that there is any posts about the same sort of thing, sounds like something to do with an immobiliser.

otherwise known as blink codes? i gave him a few print outs from 12v.org explaning how to pull the codes but he was adament that would be a waste of time. as he is convinced the imobiliser is the problem. is there some way to by-pass the imobiliser?

Does the car turn over and just not fire?
If it does then you could try locating the other wires that might be left over from the old alarm and remove them, or you could remove the battery for about 5-10 mins IIRC and that resets the ecu (there are some fuses you remove to do the same thing i think they are at the front of the fuse box under a red motorsport (or something like that) cover) I was told that's how to re-set the ecu as I had to do it recently.

There is a way of running/bridging the connections to the fuel pump to get that to run if thats whats been immobilised.

Well good luck! Blink codes will only give ECU errors - it doesn't blink codes for other computers in the car...VAG-COM (or dealer 1551) is the only way to scan all on-board computers.

Sold as seen mate, i've had stuff like that happen, currently have that problem with someone I know because I sold him a project car as I had lost the space and now he's complaining about everything possible in the hopes I will fix it all for him.

Tbh you've done more than asked for by just asking us for help, most people would have said its his problem now, show's what a good bunch audi owners are. If it turns over thats a bonus. Just needs to check the following now:

                  1. Spark at the plugs
                  2. fuel getting to the engine

Thats what i'd check next, there are posts on the site saying how to check for all these. Did he actually drive it at all? might be worth while to check cam-belts and whilst turning over the engine to start it if that it is getting oil pressure up on the guage inside (just don't run starter too long as i've just killed one like that)

The codes will be a good way to go, you've tried telling him but if he don't want to listen then its not your problem, think he's expecting you to go around and do it all for him.

                  Good luck.
