    Coupe Quattro mods

Hi guys... I'm new on this forum. I have a 90' Coupe Quattro 2.0 20V, I bought the car 2 months ago and I have some nice project 4 next year. So, first of all I will buy the whole front suspension new... the lower arms are making lots of noise. Second, the engine... my engine has 160hp (stock), now is close to 180\185hp I THINK!. it's nice to drive the car after 4500rpm up to 7500rpm but the car is a lot heavy and a N\A 2 litre, means a poor torque performance especially below 4k rpm. I don't know which is the engine code of my engine but I definetely want to get a 3B\ABY\ADU\AAN 2.2T or convert my engine into one of those... If I can...! I'm not worrying about the electronic management of the engine cuz I have other plans for it. Please... I need some opinions of you guys, help me with that, what do you recommend me (don't say to me to stay with the N\A please hahaha) Thanks a lot!!! Peace!

P.S.: What can I do with the stock gearbox?? Mine can't go over 245kph (152mph) @ 7000rpm... TOO HIGH RPM's!!

As far as I know all those engines will fit yours, I currently have a 3b in mine. Have you thought about turboing your engine (btw its a 7a code) or even supercharging it?

What mod's have you done to the engine at the moment?

      It's not 7a, it's NM.

Ah mate sorry I did not see that it was the 2 litre rather than the 2.3, keep forgetting that they did those in 20v as i've never seen one in real life over here.

What mods has it had done to get that sort of power out of it and able to hit the top speed of the gearbox?

Fast response hehe! Well, yeah, I thought it, in fact, I have a Garrett T3 (T03bb) turbocharger from a Merkur XR4Ti 2.3, it's in nice shape but... my engine has 10.3:1 compression, it's a bit high for being turboed that's because I'm thinking on the 2.2T 20V family. I'll use my stock cams for a better breathe. BTW, the cost of being turboed my engine is too high... low comp pistons, 3b conrods, exh manifold, oil and water lines on the block, oil squirter under the pistons (dunno if my engine already have them), ect. The 3B has it all done!!! hehehe In another forum I saw that I can use all the 3B\ADU\AAN\ABY internals and head, that means is the same block... isn't it?

My mods are the schrick cams, custom cold air intake, a personalized injection map for more torque at low rpm, bosch #36 inj from the Merkur engine, I have 8 other bosch inj (yellow) from a Ford 351 Cleveland in some place of my room, and that's it... w\o any mods it reached 240kph ( about 147mph) only.

Rebuild the engine with 3B/AAN/ABY/ADU pistons and rods and crank and just bolt the turbo on. The combustion chamber volume in head is the same in all 20v cars so this way you can get the 2226cc and 9:1 compression. Also it still says NM on the engine if you still have the 2L tax limit I have heard....

Excelent!!! I hope to find one 2.2 soon and do the internals transplant... and yes... taxes are the problem here. Hey, 4 Q's hehe... if I change the gearbox of the 3B, the final ratio is still the same, right? if is not, I might change the rear diff too :S The 200TQ and the 5000 TQ does have the same gearbox w\longer ratios?? I know the ADU and ABY are reinforced gearboxes...isn't? Is the T3 turbo bigger than the K24 or 26??

Same final ratio in 3B and in all type89 5cylinder quattros.
200 uses different series boxes and it's not a simple swap. Same applies to ABY/ADU but parts are available to do that eventhough they might be a bit pricey.
T3 is a series designation as is K24 and K26. It doesn't tell the turbo size.

                      to s2forum.

Your cylinder head will be fine. AFAIK it's the same as a 7A. There are details here of how to convert 7A heads to 3B spec or even ABY. Some extra holes are needed for the water manifold.

Yeah.. they're designations hehe but when talking about flow capacity there must be one that is bigger! Hey... and that water manifold... What is it's function??? Guys...thanx a lot 4 your help!!! Your opinion is very important to me! THANKS!

Turbo heads have a water manifold to spread upper rad hose water. N/A heads just have one flange. It's not anything you need to consider as a must if you make your NM a turbo.

wait... but you said IS A MUST to consider the water manifold??? or it isn't??? Dude, one last question... I lost the internal wastegate of my turbo... that T3 has the WG separated in 2 parts, the hot side of the turbo has the hole to the plate and the plate that closes the hole belows to another part that just bolts on the hot side... well, I lost the Gate. So I'm planning to use the stock S2 external wastegate BUT dunno at what pressure does it works!

                              No I don't think that it's a must.

Std WG spring is 0.4 bar and engine control unit runs a solenoid to control the actual boost level.
