How much boost on a re-map?

How much boost do you think you can run on a stock ABY engine with just a re-map? Let's say it has a 3 bar MAP sensor.
Reason I ask is, I went in a fellow forum members car yesterday and it has a VDO 25psi boost gauge in it, when he floored it the boost was going off the scale, well it would of done but for a pin stopping it at around 26psi
Can you safely run this much boost on a stock engine? I thought around 21psi was the maximum a K24 can run and still be efficient.

Lol i've seen something like that before, sorry its a bit off topic but it was a mates 1.3 fiat punto turbo. He had some wierd *** switch and valve off an escort that when it normally ran was running around 11psi IIRC and when he flicked the switch it went off the scale which went up to 30psi, its still running fine and has not blown up yet but that made me laugh to see and surprised to hear how high it would go.

Mine runs 1.3 to 1.4 bar now. The high pressure MRC map runs 1.6 bar or so, tried that and my car didn't particularly like it. 1.6 bar is about 22-23psi. Boost gauge could be a little off but 25+ seems a bit high to me on a stock car... perhaps it's not as stock as it looks?

Mine's currently running 21psi (tho I have seen 22/23 once or twice) and AFAIK its just been chipped etc.

I've heard of boost pressures of 1.9-2.0 bar being run on a stock K24. You can bet the turbo is putting a lot of heat into the charge at those levels.

Thats just insane - look at the K24 compressor map... 1.4bar is about your lot, and even with that you will see rather high air temps - an RS2 intercooler is a good mod for anyone with an upgraded ECU as it is better than the S2 intercooler.

You could perhaps run at silly pressure on a K24 for a while but you are going to seriously shorten its life and unless you have super-douper intercooler fitted then al that extra hot air just isn't going to create that much extra power.

Thats what I thought. I'll tell him to take it back and get it put right.

how is he not detting it to bits?

surely the stock injectors can't supply enough fuel for that boost level, and the combination with worryiong charge temps should mean its detting like a bitch - has the S2 got some clever knock sensor -safety boost built into the ECU?
If I'd have done something like that in my S14 it'd have holes in the pistons within seconds
