S2 newbie with KKK turbo question

Hi, have recently taken posession of a fairly sad '94 Avant which is going to recieve a back to original tight refurb with a couple of MILD upgrades thrown in, more into keeping original except for a bit more lower end power/torque and brakes.

We are just about to gut it now and I have seen a KKK turbo listed on EBAY:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=290143894803

I have heard this unit is fairly much what comes out of a 911?
My S2 is totally stock, ABY engine, my question is what other upgrades would compliment a KKK turbo mated to the engine? Wondering about mapping, rods etc.

Intend to post pics etc. when we get into it ....cant wait ....all advice appreciated!

First of all, your car has a KKK 24 standard, second, that turbo you linked too is NOT a KKK unit it is a garret turbo. It will not fit the flange on your exhaust manifold. If you are out for a RS2 turbo its called KKK 24/26. and the other mods you will need for about 360-370 real hp is a proper chip, RS2 manifold, DP, 3" exhaust system.

      thanks!

thanks for the advice! So does the RS2 unit you mention together with the other items represent the next logical stage for a stock upgrade? or are there alternatives if I am happy to achieve 350 horse? I guess I should avoid the ebay turbo?

One thing is that I want to make sure I retain decent drivability, the car will do some daily driving eventually. There is a fair bit of commentary in general on the web about bad turbo lag becoming a factor.

      thanks again!

Sorry mate I can see you haven't been around long enough yet, the turbo is a direct fit as it has a K26 hotside!

          thanks, no worries.
I think what I will do is do some reading up and maybe later post for some suggestions on the way to go later in the week, I really want to make a good job of this project, have wanted an S2 for a long time. I love the fact that nobody gets what it is and even despite the fact it's a bit soft and rattly right now it still raised a few eyebrows amongst my mates when they saw what it could do. I'm already smiling a little so when it's nice and tight and uprated I'll be very pleased! thanks!
Am I right in what I was thinking re. RS2 parts route?

no worries, never would buy something I don't fully understand so I'm gonna educate myself a bit before doing anything but i reckon what I am looking to achieve is similar to MattS2 down the post list there - RS2 parts
              lets see!
best of luck, nice car btw!

Hehe no probs, i was just being vicious as usual.

S2ABY there's quite a few things involved in a turbo change.

At a minimimum to do the job properly not including the turbo you need - larger intercooler, larger injectors, RS2 manifold, Remap

Also factor in nuts, bolts and gaskets, new fuel filter and maybe a fuel pump upgrade

The best bet would be got for a 2871 or 3071 turbo and you can still run on standard rods a bit detuned.

Rods changing is really worthwhile, they are cheap now from 034 Scat rods. An RS2 turbo can bend standard rods if tuned to it's potentional.

My advice though is 1st speak to S2central.net and upgrade your ECU with a homefry chip.

This will give you 270-280 bhp and big dollop or torque ( 300 ft/lb or more ).
