    Garrett TA34 turbocharger

As you see I'm toral rookie, and I need some advices.

    Turbo on ebay

I made an offer for a litle lower price and we almoast agreed on ewerything. Since I do not know what I'm buying here id like to have some comments. If I combine that with a tubular EM, min 750cc injectors, IC olready have real big one, where do I get wit it? People said that i should run a gt35R but if i compare the prices there is a huge diference.

    Thanks eweryone.

What your planning to but is good in injectors, EM etc I'd got for a proper GT-R turbo though as that turbo in the link isn't a Roller bearing turbo as it has a 360 thrust bearing and therfore wont spool as quick as a true GT-R turbo

I would like to know the Turbine exducer diameter and the compressor inducer diameter.

I dont think that the thrust bearings are worst than the roller bearings. Lag-wise the impeller size, impeller design and the turbine housing are more significant than the bearings.

The probmel is with these low quality turbos that are on th eebay these days. If it is a genuine Garrett and the dimentions right i dont thik it is a problem.

Is this turbo only oil colled or has it also water?

If the bearings are 360 degrees then it is a plus.

Yes they are, thats the whole feature of the roller bearing it boosts very very quickly due to low friction.

          Example

This is a nice effect but does it really matters?
where is the friction in a thrust bearing turbocharger? I would say if the oil pressure is ok then only the internal friction of the oil. Realize that the thrust bearigs float in oil.

Will try to find some links in the next hours.

dindt managed to find any infos on the net (i came all over Garrett or turbonetics dealers).

I think that the boost threshold of the GT-R turbos is better due to the ball bearings but after that the lag is not much better because there are other more significant factors like the exhaust manifold, the turbine housing, the turbine impeller design and so on.

You should also not forget that you have ball bearing turbos in order to spool fast big turbos but in order to compensate with the compressor surge you are holding the pressure back until a set RPM. So where is the benefit?

I am interested to hear also other opinions on this.

              Regards

P.S.: Dont say the GT3071 is better than the K26-27-29 with 8 (Both support to 450) exhaust housing because there you have many many different factors except the bearings. The garret since it is much newer design it has more efficient impellers different turbine housings etc.

why nobody will reminisce turbines with the mechanism of VGT?. they must give the least turbolag

It's is already available. I have 3 friends running them on their cars and boost response is mental. It's a big fad in the Renault and Volvo tuning.

They are very very fragile though and not as robust as a KKK or Garrett turbo and are sensitive to even the slightest of oil drop. I know 1 of my friends has had to rebuild his turbo twice in a year.

Whether this is down to the crap renault oil system I don't know.

                    .
gasoline engines? I dont know if a Holset or Garrett big size turbo with VNT will be more reliable than these small VNT turbos used on small diesel cars.

Yeh mate Gasoline engines, there's a few u.k turbo companies that build them.

im gonna run a SC61 which is basically a non BB GT35/40 IIRC. yes BB will spool faster as we know but as Billman says does it really make much difference. i see so many gt users running the factory boost controller or a bleed valve. pure waste of the technology. wastgate valve lift is killing the response time.

a proper external electronic boost controller with conrol over the top port is the way to go. keep the valve shut sdo full exhaust gases will make a massive difference to spool.

no point wasting your money on a GTXX turbo if you cant control gate creep first.

                          R.E Ball bearing turbo's

Customers 300zx TT ran for 2 years on the std turbos after i rebuilt the engine( JE pistons, flowed heads,FMIC etc) When these died he wanted to change to garrett roller bearing ones- job done .
On the rollers gave 502 bhp(@ wheels!!!) max boost was coming in 750 rpm sooner due to the turbos spooling up faster and let me tell you you could notice a huge difference in the pick up( a lot less lag)

                            @Dubmeister

where those new turbos exact the same as the old one in Turbine and Compressor wheels and housings? The only difference where the bearings? If not then we are comparing apples with oranges.

Dont compare the stock 300 TT turbos that came with a wheel and housing design from the end of 80s with a far better wheel design.

                            @Gazza G60

Cant we control boost from the top chamber with the stock boost controller?

I hope when i finish my engine that i will make my point clear.

the other week when i fitted my e-boost 2 i used the top port.

the car is a lot smoother and boost delivery is far quicker. it even holds boost far longer up the rev range than normal. having control over the solenoid is great. i know you can control the factory one but a proper boost controller has always been a better option i think. a slight dab on the throttle and spool starts and the tell-tale signes of 6th on motorway where wastegate valvelift will happen most is gone. spool on motorway is instant, almost too fast for my liking.

id say you can use the top chamber but usually the piping on the solenoid needs routing differently than an internal gate valve setup like the std one uses. not too up on the factory one as i never intended to use it.

i was thinking about a GT2882 as a faster spooling alternative to the SC61 but i feel the SC61 with the boost controller will be ok.

it would be nice to see what a properly controlled GT does and to see how easy it is to map it as the changes in pressure and fuel requirements will be really quick meaning a fast samling ECU would be a must id expect.
