MFTS Do ABY/ADU use it ??

Does the ABY/ADU ECU see coolant temperature from this sensor as 3B or just use coolant temperature sensor at back of block (G62 IIRC) ???

Not AFAIK. Only the 3B uses the overheat boost cut function from MFTS pin 2.

Although saying that I seem to recall Robo having boost trouble that was down to a problem with the MFTS.

See the link for info on the MFTS.

The blue temp sensor mounted on a T-fitting is the sensor for your climate control system.

Thanks but an answer would help. I have read the sjm site. But does anyone know the answer definately. I ask because the threads are confusing. Some suggest replacing the MFTS has helped ABY/ADU boost issues which suggest the ECU does get info from the MFTS.
Anyone know the definative answer ?

It looks like pin 2 on the MFTS goes to ECU pin 46 on the ABY.
Yet I find posts like this. I also have notes from Tommy200rs about the overheat function only applying to the 3B.

            Are you having trouble Alg?

I thought it did on the ABy / ADU although it doesn't boost cut like the 3B. If it thinks the coolant is too cold or hot it wont allow full boost on the ecu.

That's my understanding of it too. Not a total cut in boost, just won't allow "full" boost.

That sounds about right. The ABY/ADU having a more sophisticated approach to boost control than the 3B.

It's a topic I'm interested in. What with a loom swap in the pipeline.

No problems with mine. I was looking into the sensor/ECU interfaces to solve my A/C issues. In doing so learnt a lot. I thought I would replace the sensors that influence the ECU and therefore performance given they were 12 years old.
Already did air intake temp, planning G62 coolant temperature sensor and if it did speak to the ECU the MFTS.
My question came from a thread on RS246 RS2 forum when I suggested looking at the MFTS on an RS2 that the owner had already looked at most of the usual suspects. I was informed that the MFTS does not 'talk' to the ECU on ABY ANN ADU engines. I came here to clarify and the existing posts are confusing. I searched my audi service manuals but was no clearer!

This may or may not help but for an AAN, the ECU gets its coolant temp from the G62 sensor on the back of the head, not the MFTS, like the 3B uses. For more info, check out my post on my FAQ page in the UrS-car forum on AudiWorld:

this may help. if you look throught the stickys here for manuals you will find an pdf rs2 rebuild file, in that there is the bosch motronic file for an aby s2 the info you seek is in there.

                          Hi all

I am pretty sure that on the AAN the G62 is the sensor that sends the coolant temprature signal to the ECU.

The MFTS may still do somthing boost related but G62 defo tells the ecu what temprature the coolant is.

I recently changed mine and gained 4MPG so the ecu must have been permenantly thinking it was cold and increasing the injector duty cycle.

Yes I think mine needs the same 16.4 mpg on the average fuel readout this morning. You can actually hear it 'gargling' fuel first thing in the morning.
Guess we still have no defo answer re ABY/ADU but think it 'may' talk to the ECU
