Hello! I saw that some of you is using solid lifters in 3b or ABY engines. Can you tell me how? I have to change the valves, or there are some other solid lifters than the normal ones found in VW cars, because the solid lifters i found have not the same height like hydraulic ones.
Thank You!
Eugen
i looked into solid lifters when i was doing the 16vt. the VW 16v is basically a I-5 with 1 less pot.
there are a few routes. shrick do a solid lifter conversion for lots of money. there are a few others who do kits too. some require valve caps others not.
i was going to get a set from crespo. they did a kit for the 16v for about 180 dollars. it was shim over though. not sure what you want.
make sure the cams are solid lifter variants. they should have a smaller base circle than the hydo cams.
not sure what is done on a audi for cam sprockets and pulley. on the VW there were a few ways to time it up. either single or dual adjustable sprockests or one adj on the inlet cam and a vernier pulley on the exhaust. both giving the same. i personnally like the single adj sprocket and vernier as once the overlap is set i can advance and retard both cams as a pair from the outside.
on the subject of cams. is the twin exhaust cam mod done on these cars?
So the solid lifters from other Audi will not fit? The Sport Quattro ones maibe? A link where I can find ones. I whant to change the head gasket from paper to metal (thanks LHD). Looking for more poweeeeerrrrr!
Eugen
