Anyone replaced a viscous fan coupling on urS4/S6?

There's a diesel like rattle coming from the front of my engine bay once the car's wamred up. Having looked at the Audi family album it seems to be from the viscous coupling for the engine cooling fan ...

Has anyone ever replaced one of these? And how much or an ar*e of a job is it?

It's not too difficult with the correct tools.

    You'll need the following:

VAG3212 or you can substitute a very thin 32mm wrench
    VAG3312 spanner

Remove the upper radiator support to allow greater access to the fan. Use the tools to remove the clutch, along with the fan, from it's threaded shaft.

Installation, of course, is the reverse of removal.

Thanks. That's just the info I was looking for.

I'll see how cheap/easy it is to get hold of the tools and then make a decision on whether to DIY it or take it along to my local Audi specialist instead ....!

I have one to do as well. Is the thread left or 'normal' right handed?
