The car stopped today, on my way to work. At the red lights in the biggest crossing here in reykjavik, at 08 00 people where honking and cursing man oh man, could it be my fuel pump or is it the relee. where is the relee on these cars??
Tried to start and it runs for 0,5sec and dies again, tried the old ecu (read original) no change, starts just a little then dies, it does not get gas.. anyone, does the original rs2 fuel pump fit straight in the tank??
3B fuel pump relay is in position 10 (ten) of the relay panel in the engine bay.
You should see 12V on terminal 87 and 87a when its running - if it has failed you can bodge a connection with sturdy wiring between 87, 87a and 30 for emergency only - remove it when you stop the car or the fuel pump will flatten battery.
Check the following fuses as well -
S13 (15A) for the fuel pump
S24 (10A) for WGFV, ISV, EVAP & TCP
S25 (5A) for lambda heater
S27 (5A) for ECU
S28 (15A) for fuel injectors and MAF
S32 (20A) for ECU and coil
Check that hall sensor is working (G40) - should see pulses every other crank rotation with an LED tester across pins 1 and 2.
What codes in VAGCOM ?
Oh and check your timing marks if you get this far with no fault found.
Oh yeh - looking at pin numbers on the relay plate at location 10 fro the fuel pump relay... Thos numbers I gave are on the relay itself. To bypass the FP relay you need to remove it and bridge pin 48 to pin 59 and also bridge pin 48 to pin 52. Total current draw is circa 40A there so use something robust - emergency only.
Oh and I'll put my disclaimer on here - just quoting what I see in the 3B schematics I have - you should be OK but I can't promise these things are error free.
